    NOT advertising this, not wanting to detract from Ferrarichat, but found this site devoted to just456cars
    http://www.just456cars.com/

    I tried searching and got the ENDLESS results non-sense, even when narrowing my search, so, decided to just start a thread where the title makes sense.

    looks like someone's attempt to get it all in one location, but we've seen that time and again...anyway, might be a resource.

    Thanks, saw1998: THought I'd 'bling it up' on the first post...so:

    Two other good 456-related web sites in order to "make-up" to you 456 owners for my possible 456 mis-information, provided earlier.

    http://www.456gt.com/
    http://www.the456.com/

    The same disclaimers apply as stated in Rik's post, above.

    Wish there was something more about the stereo in the 456 - I want to run an iPod to the existing stereo or rip it out, but since it's so shallow, nothing I'm aware of that is available (and an FM transmitter isn't an option).

    This is another good thing about the M cars. You can swap it with a 430 radio.

    Have an Ipod, via its own connection port to an Alpine. Ipod sits in the glove box, and can be controlled via the Alpine faceplate: works great.

    IF you have an aux port, you can connect that way, but probably need to control the functions via the pod, which is about as easy as the faceplate: I don't deal with that stuff, usually put in a disk or radio on a long trip and good to go....otherwise, windows down and listen' to that sound.

    What Alpine do you have in the 456? I can't find a good model for the 456.

    Most of the links on the site seem to use search engines to take you away from the site. Doesnt seem to be much content maintained on the site itself.

    I will get the details and post some pics to boot. There is a similar one in the T, which I find easier to use while driving. The 456 is way too many controls, and usually leave it to the wife to mess with....

    I'm guessing you are talking of the index, which, then should be modified to remove some of the links, or just put the less useful links in a different entry area.

    Some of the fchat links have value -- some as usual have less in content but usefull in the title, which is why I selected some. e.g. Brakes should = brake 'stuff'. That way, when searching for '456 brakes' you should get a slug of info.

    I'm really curious about this, because this implies that it's not a similar set up to the original 456 stereo which didn't have a deep enough DIN chassis to support an aftermarket radio. Pics would be appreciated.

    will do. I'll say there was a lot of work done, not by me, to include an integrated XM and some 'other' whatever it was....BTW, there is a HUGE bass in the trunk I'm probably going to rip out....again, not my desire.

    the pics are on my cell phone, as the wife, it turns out, had the camera.

    Pics
    1 = Manual

    2 = Ipod section

    3 = Faceplate

    4 = [bad showing] Ipod in the glove box

    The manual on the front page doesn't show it well, and I could not get the car to show the graphics that display on the faceplate well enough to show in a pic, but there are about six items that pop up on that face plate. There are a series of touch sensitive buttons below the display that can act in sequence/together like for volume or to select an idividual items: there is XM/Sirus, Ipod, two FM bands, 1 AM, CD-Changer = six CD entries, AUX = ? or something else they'll invent. It takes all forms of burned disks to include DVD and the different formats on either a CD or DVD.

    The front load on this has been deactivated [far most right lower button] which typically forces the face plate out and you can locally load a disk. Mine are all in the trunk in a changer. When I acquired the car, I got a box of 'stuff' to include the original radio, cd-changer and amplifier, which I'll keep with the car as 'documentation' should someone, someday want to put back to original for??? concourse??, whatever.

    Speakers look original, but have been upgraded behind the faces with better electronics. The previous owner put in 'other' stuff to include front, grill mounted and in the dash radar detector, but I like my Escort much better...someday will swap out the grill one for the Escort grill RADAR and get a better item that I can trust...the one in there now just goes off at the slightest touch.

    I was told, by Sports Car Co. / Jim Lyons that owner spent up to $14,000 for all of it: that probably included the nice wiring and leather rework as the XM is mounted quite nicely in the stock rear-stop light area.

    BOOM Box BASS has got to go, even if it's above the Tubi, but must admit it's kinda nice on 'some songs'..just takes up too much room: It's covered in leather too.

    Thanks Rik.

    This Alpine unit is a full size DIN and is about 6 1/2 deep, so custom work was obviously done to make this set up work. Could you post a picture of the original Sony amplifier? My system had this removed and trying to see what the inputs consisted of.

    Thanks

    Will do, and try with a better camera. I thought the orig. said Ferrari on it, but, haven't opened the box much except to see 'stuff' seemed to all be there.

    I will have some updates on stereo alternatives shortly.

    Second, if someone is willing to host downloads, I can provide owners manuals and service manuals in PDF format for the 456 series (1992-1997).
