If you're into using one, you'll know they are very much a hit or miss. Some work great and very responsive, others were better off never being made. I left my treasure of one at the tennis court. Now I'm on a quest to find a jump rope people are wild about...

What is your recommendation, why, and can I purchase it online?

I've never really thought about jump-rope for exercise (ridiculous, I know) but I think I'll pick one up.

I use a speed rope in every workout. Losing your prize worked-in jump rope (or having yours stolen in my case), is like losing an old baseball mitt! I use a simple and cheap speed rope, always have. It's about the bearings! ...'Everything's ball bearings these days guys!'

Honestly, it doesn't matter what kind of jump rope you buy, just make sure the rope is decent length. Jumping rope is one of the most essential things you can do to improve your overall cardio and fitness in general. Fighters have been doing this for centuries. There is certainly a reason :)

I think any rope is fine, you can make your own, as long as the length is good, and the pavement/ground you will be jumping on is level or slightly cushiony. Use common sense, don't jump rope on gravel or rocks.

IMHO, I'd say not to skip rope on concrete.
