    Hello everyone.
I don't make it over here often but have a question that I hope someone can answer for me.
I have a 1988 Testarossa (US spec) but trying to give it a European look. I already have the Euro style turn signal lenses and an EU plate (Italy/Modena) but would like to complete the look with driving lights that light up yellow. I tried yellow laminate on the lens surface and it didn't seem to look good. Is this how the driving lights on French TR's are?

The large rectangular driving light has burned out on one side. The bulb used in this assembly is a Philips H3. I would like to replace both with REAL yellow bulbs.

The only ones that seem available in the States are a very weak yellow compared to what I have seen on European cars.

A daytime picture of one TR in Finland shows CLEAR lenses on the driving lights but I can see the reflection of a yellow bulb inside the light itself..

Any help would be appreciated, part numbers especially.

    Thanks all for the help!

    Bruno,

I piedi con la testa rossa

Vi preghiamo di scusare il mio italiano.
Con la mia licenza che volevo dire "quello che divertimento!" Usato come piacere. I ridere durante la guida.
    Mai a piedi.
    Gran divertimento!

With my license I meant to say, "amusement, enjoyment", "Per Spasso!" Che Spasso!"

Get ahold of Dan Stern. The yellow bulbs are not what they used to be.

Cadmium glass was used to make the old French-market Selective Yellow bulbs; now that Cadmium's been more or less banned from auto parts for environmental reasons, the best remaining options are dichroic bulbs or non-dichroic filters applied to one of the optical elements (lens or reflector).

I am aware of Dan Stern and have read his stuff about the evolution of HIR and HID applications. I'll take a look at the dichroic reference on his site.
    Thanks

Looks like I will be getting the Philips H3 with the Dichroic coating.

The Colorchrome that was sold by POR15 is now discontinued and would have been handy for converting clear lenses to your prefered shade of yellow, too bad.

The only alternative is Lamin-X yellow film applique' which I have used successfully on BMW's

Pop ups yellow French lights were mass-tainted in the glass...

You'lle never be able to imitate perfectly.

And foglights only used yellow bulbs lights.

I just scored two pints of NOS Colorchrome yellow. Repeated application dictates the intensity/darkness of the shade. I will experiment some more.

Whatever the sum of your efforts, it definitely won't look alike the real thing.

I think it would be easier to search for someone down there looking for trading your lenses for his yellow, as for years, we use white lenses now in France.

And you will get the real thing.

    No make up.

Definitely? If I duplicate the original process why not?
There is only one way to find out.
