Another thing to watch for is the CHP in something other than a black and white patrol car. Last week on HWY 1 in Santa Cruz County I saw the CHP pull someone over using a white late model Camero with no light bar on top. Sneaky!

Tony: we'll see. I've got to try it now!

Zigno; they do have white cameros, that have only a logo on the side and clear bars inside. This is virtually indetectable as no one looks for them.

To be honest, the use of a Camero (supposedly souped up) by CHP goes completely against any concept of "safety" as demonstrated by CHP.

The only reason they would ever use a faster car is because they want to chase someone. If someone is going to run, they're going to run whether it's a crown vic or a camero (stupidity generally doesn't analyze situations). The problem here is that then the cop (who is probably less qualified to drive quickly - I have seen the schools they attend) DRAMATICALLY increases the chances of an unrelated third party being involved in a potentially fatal manner.

How many times have we seen the cop being outrun / outsmarted, whereas the minivan mother taking 7 kids to soccer practice is barrelled into by the crown vic? Moreso than you hear about. It happens. All over.

Plus, here's the stupidest part of all. Even if they DO catch the guy - the cop still doesn't have any place to put him in the camero. he still has to wait for the crown vics to arrive. In which case, using *smart* radio tactics removes completely any necessity for a camero in the first place.

we have unmarked SCC Sheriff Camaro's here in Saratoga. Yep, the V1 is a necessity. My problem is this. The Dino cigarette lighter is not the standard plug we see today. I would have to hardwire the V1 into my system somehow. The car is so low, it really needs to be put up as high as possible, so I can stash it in the front grill...

    Tony,

You could place a hardwire "wire" for the V1, and then simply plug it in when you move the V1 into the Dino for the days you take it. No more messy cigarette lighter adapter (mine never fit into the Jags).

I haven't seen/heard about an unmarked one. I thought this is illegal?

    Yo Dano--

Simply put. That is BS. CHP's driving academy is one of the best in the world. State agencies from all over our fair land send people there. It is not like Santa Clara PD, which has been known to use Great America's Parking lot. The driving academy that CHP uses is located in Sac and is taught not only by officers, but my "specialist".

As well, on the main page,(http://www.chp.ca.gov/index.html) they show there other secret car. The black Camaro with white doors. These are used just like the white ones, just have not seen any in the bay area yet. I have seen them in the Central Valley. It is fairly rare for a CHP officer in contrast to the local PD to arrest someone. They are accident investagators and ticket writers, not civil babysiters.
