FIM certified two way pass from the Ack Attack Streamliner.

LandRacing.com says they are in impound getting tech'd.

    NICE work.

still lots of time in the meet. Good hard Salt, near zero wind. The bar has been set pretty damn high. other streamliners on hand and the record may get pushed up again. Every bike capable of 300+mph is on the Salt this week at the AMA/Bub's International Speed trails. lets see what happens.

Several friends are there pushing the limits in several classes. send good juju towards the Salt. Some serious runs are going to happen this week.

and I'm stuck at home firing up a new business.... fark.

That is so insanely fast. I would never feel comfortable going those speeds in a car with a closed roof.

Those guys have balls, I respect that.

That is 549.9km/h!!! Scary fast!! You would never catch me doing that in a car, let alone a bike! They are brave boys that do those crazy speeds on 2 wheels!! Cheers for posting. :)

I'm amazed someone would even test the new body design out for a top speed run. That would be a pretty quick demise at 350mph.

What happens if they lose traction or theres a crossbreeze?

cross breeze is limited to about 7mph. Anything above that and the streamliners dont run. There are 6 weather stations along the course to monitor this.

Traction? There is at least 10-15% wheelspin on the Salt. Anything over 150mph the aerodynamic forces start to rule the day. The rear wheel starts to spin up as the rear of the bike tries to push the front of the bike through the ever increasing resistance up front. An added bonus is that over this speed the back wants to come around to the front, using the strearing head as a pivot point. It gets exciting.

The upside is the Salt is dry and hard this year. Great conditions. Less wheelspin, but its certainly there.

The Streamliners have the extra added bonus of having the steering/counter steering equation change 2-3 times on the way up to 300mph. Below a certain speed you turn the bars one way to turn, over certain speed you turn the opposite way (you can try this on your bicycle, at low speeds you turn the bars the way you want to turn, once you go faster you countersteer).

here is a video of what happens when it goes wrong.

Jimmy Odom took out the timing lights at 271mph after getting airborn from a corss wind. He walked away and was fine. Damn near stopped my heart to watch it.

So...what kind of bike was that?

Raise your hand who actually had hit 140 mph in a bike?

oops.. the previous video link is dead...
    here is a good one

    http://www.landracing.com/ack.mov

You can see just a little cross wind caused a slight tip. Jimmy fought it and damn near pulled it out. The vehcle went airborn for a little over 100 yards and took out the timing light at ~270 mph. He had entered the measured mile at a little over 300mph right before the crosswind.

here are some more seriously fast videos.

new fastest pass of 346mph today, but slowed on the return run, so no new record.

Course shut down when a wind storm blew in. 40mph winds.

    Racing resumes on Tues. a.m.
