A friend was washing his car and for the hood he tried to use the rough end of a sponge to take off some of the more prominent marks. Yet now there seems to be white patches where he was scrubing.

Is it possible that he actually rubbed all the way through the paint?

Is there a way to repair paint without having to repaint?

Sorry for my ignorance, I just cant believe that the paint is so thin that you could get through it with a sponge.

It's a Passat, if that helps any with information.

    Thank you in advance,

    Peter

Edit : saw the car, seems like scratches, colorwise, but still smooth, very strange.

Sounds like he scratched the clearcoat that is over the paint. If he has not rubbed all the way through the clear it is possible to have the damage corrected with a professional buff job. Do not attempt to do it yourselves, you will burn the paint.......
