i have a new gtr that i use as a daily driver and track car (8 x yr). i also have a 1970 jag xke convert that i use as a fun open top car good weather car.

the gtr lease is over next year so thinking about a change. i need a dd that is reasonably practical and can drive ny suburban streets in winter. also want a convertible. i could just lease another gtr and keep jag but variety is spice of life

    some choices -

    1. scud and matching fiat 500 convt. love scud but would stress over tracking it with warranty issues, $$$ ccm brakes, etc. having matching 500 would be cool with stripes, etc

    2. used 458 and 500 convt. same as above

    3. maserati convt and used cayman set up for track. maser is nice, practical, and sounds great. cayman would be fun project to mod and less stress about it on track. downside is masser wouldnt be great in bad weather but could get winter tires if needed. my fave choice so far

other options (in this price range) anyone?

    GT3 and keep Jag
    911/991 and F conv (355/360/430/3x8/16M).

Going to two car model is not easy for me. Three is ideal: race car, conv, dd. If two is a must, budget needs to be significantly higher: 991, historic but streetable F race car.

Used 911 GT2 for DD and track use. Upcoming 911 Turbo would also be just as fast and might have AWD for winter. Keep the Jaguar as the convertible or sell it and get a 355/360 Spyder.

Subie STI - daily and winter and track

F430 spider - track and convertible and nice days (could be replaced by 458 if $ permits)

Now that I think more about it you could probably keep the jag for weekend cruises and if a GTR is about $90k you could buy a 360 coupe (maybe even a spider) and a STI for the same money or close as the GTR.

    good idea john

i like an evo over an sti but that makes a nice track car with some mods and not too costly either. then 430 spider as the weekend nice weather car.

    430s/evo vs maser/cayman?

430 spider and EVO would be a heck of a pair.

How about an Abarth for the track and a 430 Spider for the weekend? The Abarth would cost less to maintain and would be cheaper to throw some tires, brakes and some mods onto.

Go look at the 500C, they are airy but don't have the convertible feel.

430 16m with possibly some American muscle. Sounds like you like the track so a brand new Boss 302 (Laguna Seca track pack) wouldnt be bad.

I think all those vary in price range, you could also throw in an M6 into that bunch. There are some dealerships around me (2 of the largest Viper retailers in the country) that are still selling the ACR's for $111-$114,000.

Heres a link to one of our dealers. Prices vary from $94-$131,000.

With a track car it's not just the acquisition. What do tires, brakes, and other consumables cost? How long do they last? For the pace a Ferrari is stupidly expensive.

With a track car IMO the lighter the better.

Asking, maybe but I doubt selling. The new 2013 viper has a $99k MSRP. Good luck selling the old car for more

Well all those are still brand new ACR's and if someone wanted a cool Viper without spending the same amount as a GTS ($137,000), that would be perfect.

thanks for lots of advice so far.

im not really interested in another hipo street car to use on the track. ive had that with gtr, gt3, and ferrari in the past. im looking to reduce the stress of tracking an expensive car so vipers, etc dont help.

i dont need the track car to be a convertible either. i just want 1 of the 2 cars to be open top.

so far i like my original idea of maserati convertible for street and used cayman set up for track best. the 430 spider for fun and abarth for the track/daily is interesting also.

Indeed it is, check my previous post above. That's why I suggest the Abarth - wear and tear wouldn't equal as much as a Scuderia. Plus upgrading it wouldn't be nearly as expensive.

Have you looked into the Cayman R?

Cayman r is nice but still expensive for a track car. I would rather buy a beater cayman and mod heck out of it. Abarth is interesting option

Would love feedback on new maser cab/ used modded cayman vs 430 cab/abarth

I think you answered your own question re: the Scud. if you're already apprehensive about running costs and repairs, you won't track it much and won't enjoy it fully when you do.

Maserati/Cayman could be a great combo. Masers are gorgeous and pretty reliable (from what I hear ;)), and Cayman is a great value for money with a big aftermarket. may want to consider a C6 z06 for the same reasons.

by 430s i meant spider not scud.

abarth would be the dd and track car in that combo while 430 would be weekend convt.

    ah, sorry, misread that one.

FWIW if you're used to GTR levels of performance I think you'll be bored with an Abarth quickly on the track.
