Guys Is there a best year of build to buy a LHD (PreABS) 328? Assuming that they are all in the same condition? I have the chance to purchase a 1986 model is this just as desirable as a 1987/8 car. Any advice would be appreciated.. Rod
Apart from the introudction of ABS in the late 88 - 89 models, different years are equivalent. Only important thing, apart from thr "standard" controls, is to check that all service bullettins have been introduced. My 1986 runs great and I do not thing that ABS is such a mandatory addition. Buy it and drive it. Ciao Eugenio
Rod, The newer the car the better they get! But to be honest.... I think that a good '86 drives as good as a '87/'88 model. Just make sure that you know the WHOLE history! Don't accept gaps in the history of the car. Send me a pm if you need some advice. Ton
Hi Rod, I agree with Ton & Eugenio. History is everything - insist on documentary evidence and if it is less than forthcoming, walk away! My 1986 is a gem, but I have the full history of the vehicle from day one, and that makes a difference. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance, Cheers, MARK
So guys What your saying is... if the car has been well looked after and is as new it does'nt matter about the year? 86-88 (pre abs).. Rod
Exactly! An '88 car will not bring you a lot more pleasure than an '86 car. But.....be very critical on the history! Walk away from any car that doesn't feel right or does not have a complete (!) history. I hope that you will soon find a good 328! There are not too many "good" ones out there! Ton
If I were in the market for a 328, it would be an 88 1/2... Where the suspension has the later 348 style, but pre ABS brakes.
Rod,as I said in the e-mail the one that was maintined by John Buchan,if they both were then thats one happy dilemma... All the best Dave
At one point bot of my car's door lock stuck and I could not get in. Do this qualify as an Anti Break Locking System (ABS)?? Cheers, MARK
Mark, yes, exactly! Thats ONE kind of ABS. There are so many ways of ABS....thats why we can say: A ll B ull S hit
The early ABS cars did NOT have the 348 suspension! Only the last series of the 328 were fitted with that suspension. Furthermore the early ABS is not a very good working system. Just use your brakes the way they are supposed to be used. Good luck on your search. just remember that there is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari. In the end those cars will bite you. Ton
"The early ABS cars did NOT have the 348 suspension!" Tom, the suspension change was made before the change to ABS brakes.
Ouch, That shows my ultimate knowledge of Ferrari's! I really thought that it was the other way around. First ABS then new suspension. Nevertheless, I drove frequently in pre- and post ABS 328's and was not shocked by the difference in handling. But then again I am not a racer. If you want to experience the difference yourself then drive both! Ton
Seems to be the newer they get the better they get. I have had problems with noise from the air intake and oil cooler failure, both which were modified on post '88 cars.
