My H2 is being restored by Joe Bruton who restored bikes for the Barber Motorcycle Museum for 17 years. www.brutonvintagemotorcycle.com Tell Joe I said hi.
In the beginning, my 1984 CR 125 (first real bike) Later, a 1980 BMW R80/7 (simple fun, I discovered touring on it and still miss it) Later still, 1991 Ducati 888 corsa. A big red pump. Later still, 2008 Ducati Desmosedici (strong stuff) These days, my 2012 KTM 250 SX 2 stroke. (back to the beginning again).
My first bike was a Sears 106. I don't have a picture of it, this one I found on the internet and it's almost exact, except that I had a rack over the rear fender on mine. It was very slow, and I lived in the woods where most of the other kids had Honda Trail 50's & 70's which were great for the logging roads. So I was always lagging behind, and this didn't make for a very good dirt bike - although I tried to use it as one. I wish I'd had the bike in the 2nd picture back then though... It would have been brand new (in '73), and much better. It's the bike I have now. And funny thing... It looks like they both have the same tail-light! LOL!! My first bike Yamaha Maxim 400. Nothing great about it, but it was my first. Very reliable and an excelent starter bike. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually, I think the HD 350SX will be my most memorable. It's the first bike I actually purchased on my own. The Sears was my dad's bike, but he never rode it. Later, I went though a slew of 350's, one 450 and several 750's. - all were my dad's except for one CB 350 I wrecked when I was 14. Put me in a coma for 5-days and was knocked-out for about 2-and-a-half weeks. That was memorable. <thinking> ...coma. Well, okay I lost my memory. But I got it back! But this bike will be the bike I'll most certainly talk the most about. I'm 55 and just started riding again. So I had to take my DMV test. I didn't do the class. And I passed on the first try. Now I can say I passed the DMV on a Harley after starting to ride again after 30 years. I'll just neglect to mention that it was on a 350!
Everyone has a bike that they wish they never sold. The one you kick yourself in the head for getting rid of every time you see a clean one on Ebay. This was my once mine, and now belongs to a friend's collection....but he won't sell it back to me! 1993 Ducati 900 Superlight with 41mm Keihin carb conversion and Staintune pipes. yes...you should still be kicking yourself! i always wanted a 900 sl but have never found the right one but you actually had the right one in your hands
1974 CZ 250...I was 16 years old..The Bike was my dream machine Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sorry that photo was 1972.. Yes CZ's were hot back then along with Husqvarna and Maico... Just big pistons, big carbs and knobby tires.. another pic of my riding buddy with his Maico 400.. I rember the compression release on the handle bars...It took Big Cajones just to kick start that bike. Power was instant on these machines Image Unavailable, Please Login
It was a Benelli. That's why it has the same tail-light. The Harley is a HD badged Aermacchi from the same era. After AMF sold Aermacchi, they went on to make Moto Guzzi's and Ducati's, if my memory serves me correctly.
I remember going to look at that with you on 14th street! I remember you said it was a big deal, and I couldn't quite grasp the magnitude of it. jay
My first bike was a 1968 Bridgestone 90 M. I bought it for $100.00 . It had a premix 2 stroke single cyl engine, it averaged 150 mpg at 35 MPH, it had a top speed of 68 miles per hour. Unfortunately it was stolen a couple of years later. My favorite bike was a 1977 Honda Mini Trail 70. I took it on two major trips, the first time I rode it from La Mirada, CA. to Santa Rosa, CA. and back. It took me 4 days @ 10 hrs per day to get there, I spent less than $20.00 on gas round trip ( gas was about $0.26 per gallon in 1977). My second trip was from La Mirada to Lake Tahoe and back, it took me about 10 days just to get there. It took quite a bit of pre planning when you have to take streets and 2 lane highways. Memories,,,
Yes, I was familiar with the AerMacchi and the HD connection. In Italy we did not have the 350 until almost at the end of AerMacchi and we definitely did not have the Scrambler version. I do not know about any venture of AMF with Moto Guzzi and Ducati though.
I miss my 748 everyday. It was the bike I did my first trackday on. Put my knee down for the first time and rode more miles on it than any other bike I owned. It and my 900 ss sp were the only bikes I ever sat in the garage in the dead of winter with a cup of hot chocolate and just gazed at them. The 748 recieved more snowy night visits than the 900.
