approximately 4 days. would like suggestions for top rated restaurants. also, hotel recommendations that are value priced. prefer to eat like a king than spend big $$ on a hotel.
    thank you,

For me best restaurant is : Guy Savoy, but expensive 3 stars
Regarding the hotel I really don't know, leaving in Paris I never tried one. You should check the area you want to be the most and pick up a hotel there.

scudman, thanks for the reply. last time we were in paris, 1997, we had lunch at "l'ambroisie". cost $325. dinner at the ritz was $300. total, $600us for 2 meals, but well worth it.

I stayed here last weekend: http://www.hotelmarignan.fr/

Not a super 10-star hotel, but nice, quiet, safe, walking distance to everything, fair price. Their restaurant and breakfast is too pricey. Walking distance to many cafes for breakfast.

Ate at cafes mostly, but had a nice dinner here: http://www.avenue-restaurant.com/

The country code is 33. You would dial 331 45 48 85 14 leaving out the zero, which you only dial when in country. 01 indicates a Parisian landline. 06 would indicate a cell--or portable, as the French say.

In preparation for shooting The French Chef--a humorous, cooking/travelogue in Paris--I auditioned a half dozen chefs in Paris. They each prepared a meal for my partner and I as an example of what they would cook on the show. As you may know, in France, a restaurant (unless it is part of a chain) is owned by the chef and it is his--or occasionally her--domain.

I would say it is well worth while.

La Famiglia, Italian for the locals, north off Avenue Grand Armee, near Malakof. You will not find many, if any, tourists here.

I worked for many years for Louis Dreyfus, so the people in their corporate office took me there, have always gone back every trip to Paris.

Will be going there with my wife the weekend of April 28. Six wild mushrrom appetizer is great, but you will notice an extra inch on your waist the next day. I am actually conditioning for this trip. Losing a few pounds so I can gain them all back!

France is so much wonderful, but France is also about incredible food. The three reasons French food is so good?

    Beurre, beurre, et beurre.

As for where to stay, we rented an apartment in the 8th for one week.

I must thank you for this recommendation. I am in Paris and had a craving for some good traditional Italian food so booked this restaurant last night. Suffice it to say it was excellent, a fantastic atmosphere and I will surely be back when I return to Paris.
