I'd like to get an idea for the worst depreciating value of various vehicles. I know there are a lot of factors that formulate the overall value, options, mileage, service history, overall dependability, etc..

    Here's a example:

    2001 CLK55 AMG W208 coupe - NEW $70,000 NOW $9500

I've always liked these cars looks & power but can be a money pit to maintain.

All the AMG's have terrible depreciation rates. So do Jaguars. The XKR's and XJR's start near $100,000 and end up in the $30,000 range after a few years.

Just off the top of my head:

2010 Supercharged Range Rover =$110K ---2010 Supercharged RR w/15K miles=$88K. Depreciation of roughly $1.50 per mile in only a few months...ouch. Land Rovers generally don't hold their value too well.

The bottom also seems to fall out of a good many late model Maserati's. A 2004/5 Cambiocorsa was ~$90K & a sub 30K mile example can be bought all day long for $30-35K.

    Basically all post-993 Porsche's depreciate poorly...or fantastically if you're a buyer!

It should be interesting to see the responses from people who have taken a big hit.

My 997 lost about $40k in 3 years and 15k miles; my GT3 lost $50k in 6 years and 3500 miles.

Of course I'm the second owner so I benefited from said depreciation :D. Basically between the two I got a free Porsche :)

Gallardos probably win the dollar amount drop...$200-250k new, early 04s are now consistently under $100k (sometimes much under). ouch.

Going to have to quote Simon here on this one. I've owned a couple Saabs in the past, 2001/2002 models, and both were $80,000+ CDN brand new. Price of one as of today? Approximately $8,000. It's almost sickening how low they drop - and how fast they drop to it.

I was the beneficiary of this... 2008 (summer) pretty loaded Benz E350 - $78k new. I bought it winter 2009 with 2300 miles for $41K... amazing how much it tanked in that short time and miles. (first owner traded in on a CLK550)

    But I won :D

My father likes to tell of the mid-70's when you could buy a new Alfa Spyder new, drive it a block to any other dealer, and be compleely unable to trade it in. No dealers would touch the things.

how can you forget to mention maseratis?

Astons are terrible, Arnages are terrible, just about anything with a MB logo... Saabs, many nissans... id also have to say a heavily optioned 911 as well... the fact that you can double the price of the car in personal options you might as well light your money on fire because you like the smell... LOL...

now for cars that are worth too much money on resale... id have to say a toyota pickup... pick any of them... for the most part... you are better off buying new instead of used!

I bought a 2000 Jag XJR for $6500 last November (originally was $70k or so). It's essentially disposable at that price and a pretty fun car. It's contemporaries, the BMW M5 and Mercedes E55 (pre-supercharger) cost 2X as much.

LOL I had that EXACT car except it was black. Paid $72k with navi. Piece of junk but I really miss it. Weird. Maybe I'll buy another when I finally go completely broke just so I can relive my past (when I wasn't). LOL.

You Americans should ship your cars here to sell them. The original poster put a picture up of a CLK55 Merc. Would probably still be selling for 50k + if I could be bothered to check.
No Maybach, Aston, AMG Merc, Supercharged Rangie would depreciate that quickly over here. We pay a premium for our cars here. So to buy into a 348/355 now still costs $120 to 180,000 (Depending upon condition, and wether or not it's a spider)

The few luxury cars that do lose their value here quickly seem to be Jags, saabs & volvos. And even they seem to hold pretty steady value.
