The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (the group who runs and promotes conventions, major events, and tourism in Las Vegas) is filing suit against another promoter to get them out of the mix so it can negotiate a deal. They would not do this if they were no longer interested.

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/tourism/lvcva-to-take-legal-action-against-formula-one-race-promoter-2299303/

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board of directors has authorized its staff to proceed with legal action against a Henderson-based promotional group intent on blocking the agency from hosting a Formula One car race.

In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the board gave President and CEO Steve Hill permission to file a court action against P2M Motorsports LLC and seek an order that a nondisclosure agreement P2M holds is “void, unenforceable and inapplicable” to the LVCVA’s efforts to bring a Formula One race to the Strip.

Formula One vehicles are high-performance, open-cockpit, open-wheel cars and their races are followed by millions of fans around the world. Formula One fans are known for traveling worldwide to see races on courses that often are set up on city streets.

The LVCVA’s action comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed March 3 in Clark County District Court by Formula One World Championship Ltd. and Liberty Media Corp. against P2M.

According to that lawsuit, Formula One World Championship, a London company that holds the worldwide rights to Formula One racing, has been trying since 2013 to re-establish a race in Las Vegas after staging races in Southern Nevada in the 1980s. The Caesars Palace Grand Prix was last run in 1981.

Formula One, which was sold to Englewood, Colorado-based Liberty Media Corp. in January 2017, had discussions with P2M on a Las Vegas race eight years ago, but a contract was never signed giving P2M a promotional role for the event, the lawsuit says.

After Liberty acquired Formula One, P2M and its owner, Farid Shidfar, continued to try to convince Liberty that it should promote the race, even though no contract had been signed.

    Hope it happens.

    Night race in Vegas!!!

    They definitely have the infrastructure.

Better than Miami and the retirees blocking the F1 race there.

Horrible place for a race - it would be a sideshow... and a tacky one at that. so it will definitely happen.

Better than South Florida. Just don't make the circuit out of parking lots only. Make it a night race and use part of the strip. Mega!

F-1 will love it as it will mean more revenue from gambling... who wins, pole, fastest lap etc....

I would have to incorporate the strip IMO. Otherwise utterly stupid.

That, or utilize that desert and build a proper track...

Sure, there will be people in favour of it, but nothing can beat a well designed purpose-built circuit out of town and with good access roads.

+1 This. Everything in Las Vegas is contrived and fake. I was raised there but refuse to go now that I live in a normal area and know what normal is. What's strange is almost no one is from that town so no one respects the town nor has history there. The education system is horrid yet extremely well funded, there is no higher education nor even emphasis on higher education there, just a terrible place to raise kids and be normal. I just don't get that random desert town, never will. Don't drag F1 down turning into a clown-shoes sideshow designed only for casinos and strip clubs to get big foreign money in town, as that is certainly what it would be there.

Oh but with Liberty - ITs the SHOW! Spectacle for TV more than anything else. Racing it appears will take the backseat at times possibly.

Last season was a 'wake-up' call to simply provide good racing. That is the 'show'. Not lights or sights. Racing. We had that last year with different circuits.

I've been to Vegas twice. both for meetings, but spent days before or after ... I'm not into gambling - so an hour at the craps table and I'm totally done... I won more than I spent.... so that was good.

as a town - not much, the only thing ( this is 5+ years ago ) there was some genuinely good food - Joel Robochon, Bouchon, Guy Savoy all were good. some sell-outs like Puck and Bayless etc... but nevertheless, the food was good. The suite we had at Caesars was over the top, but frankly you only really use two rooms ... bed and bath... all the rest is just space. one day we literally spent in the room ( it was a cold windy day out ) had every meal in the room and massages which was nice... but we could have done that anywhere. if you put F-1 into the mix, I'd at least get out of the room. I cant imagine the drunken parties that will happen. but not my speed anymore.

And this ladies and gentlemen is why I like Liberty. Despite their many other blunders.

    2022 Miami GP
    2023 Las Vegas GP (hopefully)
