Did the factory produce a USA version 400? The service manual talks about the VIN number designating an 'A' version as USA. As: ZFF E B 06 'A' 0 0 0 012345
That's right, never officially imported into the US, although many came in brand new and were converted for EPA and DOT approval. John
I know it was never sold in the US by Ferrari. I'm wondering if the factory ever built any with the 'A' designation. Why would they make the provision in the numbering system without the intention of using it?
This whole thing with 400s not being officially sold in the US is bizarre as the automatic gearbox option was developed specifically for the US market and I believe the fuel injection system (a first for Ferrari road cars) was also introduced for the US market to help with emissions. Aidan
The plan was to export it to the US market, hence the "A" reference. However due to emissions and crash standards those plans were scrapped and it was only sold new in Europe.
