This ought to be interesting as Windsor has been trying to put together a team for years and actually almost started an IRL Team about a decade ago.
The "Bail-out Bomber"? Hmm. Chrysler -- not US owned. GM -- made in South America (and Canada). Ford --- most of their best stuff is made in Europe. Ah! I see. By 2010, they figure that F1 will only be run on virtual tracks, so they're building a "software" car. (Or more like "vaporware".) Can you really see them running an F150 pickup in F1? (Of course, by the time Bernie/Max get done mucking with the rules, ...)
It would be nice to see a US team in F1. I can't imagine what car they would bring to the playing table.
Well, all you skeptics need to do is visit the website, and all your questions and concerns will be answered! www.usf1.com
I'm all for it but I wonder if a U.S. based team can compete logistically. If Mike Andretti had trouble just getting himself back and forth how can an entire team expect not to be disadvantaged?
This is great, and if it happens it should mean the return of a race (or two) to North America. However, I can't help saying, that I will be waiting for Peter's replacement to be chasing him down the grid right before a race starts to ask him "Peter, when do you think one of your cars will break into the 9th row on the starting grid?"
Is this a joke? I'd be curious if there's anyone really behind it with deep pockets and ready to stuff $$ down that rat hole or is it all wishful thinking?
This idea is LONG overdue. I hope it comes to be, even if they turn into another Super Aguri or Minardi (I loved both of those teams!)
Penske was moderately successful in F1 (winning a race in 1976) - so it's achievable. However, this makes no sense unless someone is acquiring the Honda F1 assets. Why would you want to bootstrap an F1 team? Isn't that sort of like buying an F-Car that needs the major service completed?
The question is this - even with a US F1 team - do the Ferrari owners root for the US F1 team or still Ferrari ???? Split allegiances ??
This makes no sense...it would be great if it happens, but we don't even have a GP and what sponsor is going to invest big dollars in a team when it can't even push it's own product/services in a North American race?
That was 33 years ago. Back then you could win the occasional race by growing a set of balls and take some extra risk. totally irrelevant. I wonder what drivers they will use. Havent really seen any particularly impressive american drivers really (not counting NASCAR and indy car, or any other american only race series, since I dont watch them). Andretti isn't impressing in A1GP, there isnt an american in GP2 and the last american in F1 didnt impress either (nor did Bourdais, who was supposedly mega impressive?). Button is obvious, he could get a drive. Perhaps Senna or Doornbos (who did well in his stints in F1) are an option.
Not irrelevant - you missed my point. Penske isn't someone that grew a set of balls and risk, he's a racing empire. He COULD go into F1 and make it work. Could he win? Doubt it, but the point I was making is that with the right $$$ and people, it can happen. Idon't think anyone is saying that a USF1 team will be immediately competitive, I think it's more surprising that they'd even make the grid. From my point of view, there's no reason to believe that ProDrive would be any more successful than Penske, other than ProDrive being based in the UK. Lo and behold, Penske maintained a big part of his ops in the UK until very recently.
