I saw this article earlier today. I wonder what the mechanicals and computers are like. Really, the mechanical arrangement is what I'm curious about.

I am really happy that Ferrari provides this service and that well heeled gentlemen are still up to it.

It's all otherwise stock 458 AFAIK ...the original V12 into 458 chassis idea ended up not being possible (or reasonable)

    Much prefer a real BB...

Although this is better looking than that utterly hideous ''special'' F430 done for a Japanese business man.

Reportedly cost more than $3 million. Not sure he got his money's worth.

    Agreed - it looks terrific.

Some might say the same thing about the astronomical cost of some very early Ferraris. This is a 1 of 1, so $3m for a unique car doesn't seem too bad to me.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I believe that with so much money they could intervene better in most areas of the car instead of put redesigned front lights, a redesigned bodywork etc...

I think the Ford GT effort was a better 'retro' result than the Boxer here.
Wish someone would tackle the Ferrari P5. That design has a lot more to work with than a Boxer did.

You're comparing apples to oranges here, the Ford was a clean sheet design this was not.

There were many limitations on what was possible, given the constraints I believe they did a good job.

IMO for the money Ferrari charges they should make these SP's a lot more bespoke.

What limits how far they will deviate from the production model? Money, legislation? What was Clapton's brief?

Of course, given you would really get involved as a client, you could buy a new Ferrari, strip it and start over; you know this route. The advantage is that you are free in what it will become in the end, but you also want it registered at some point. There is little that can't be done, but everything has its' price.

I do agree though, that if this car cost 3mm to create, somebody did good business.

    Best,

    Jack.

    Clapton wanted a 458 with a V12.

    He didn't get one.

But I quite like what he did get. Although for the money I don't know if I'd be so happy with recycled headlights from an Enzo...

Were any performance modifications made to Clapton's car, or is this strictly about aesthetics?
