Dave....was just thinking about the storm and you down there. Glad you checked in ok. We're doing a track day this weekend (at Putnam Park near Indianapolis) and have been eyeing the weather as it looks like as of tomorrow, the center will be over our position dropping TONS of rain.

Luckily, we have a set of Hoosier Dirt Stockers all ready and mounted up so we can go hurt some feelings. :)

    Well its been pretty wild.

Here is the situation right now for us, we're WAY better off tham most

Everybody in my family is fine so all the rest is just money and time.

The latest number from the power companies is somewhere over 3,000,000 yes THREE MILLION are without power.
    Landline phone service = none
Cell phone service is crappy at best now. Which I don't get because at the height of the storm, winds blowing over 90 mph, cell service was great. You figure it out.
Houston, city, water in under a boil order for another day. My city never had a breach of the system so we're good.
We're under a dusk to dawn curfew.
    No damage at the winery.
Roads are fine where I live. Closer to the coast there are 30' boats in the middle of the expressway.
House faired quite well. Shingles ripped up but a crew of 4, 4 hours, and 4 thousand dollars will fix that.
My poor trees are standing around looking for a bathrobe; they're all naked, leaves have been stripped off from the wind.

There is a Ferrari in a hangar at Hobby airport that didn't do so well. Not mine.

Thanks all for the prayers and concern.

    Dave,

Thanks for the update and pics. 3 million is a staggering number especially when you consider that is "households", not head-count. One estimate pegged it at 4.5 million "people" but I'd think the average household is more than 1.5 folks.

That is amazing about your cell service. After Katrina we had only text messaging and blackberry service for a few days.

Congrats on your relative good fortune!

    Steve

Glad everything is ok Dave. Here in the middle of Indiana, we cut the track day short. Rain was ok, it's when the 35-50 mph winds and supposed gusts to 80 mph within the hour caused everyone to get the hell outta there.

Lots of (albiet, relatively minor) carnage on the way down to Louisville...including a 4 mile backup (5-10mph tops) due to a downed power line.

I couldn't imagine what kinds of stuff you guys went through.

    Glad everything's cool.

    Dave,

In Louisiana we were watching Galveston get nailed, so sad......................... We barely got any of Ike but Hanna and Gustov got us a little.

Glad to hear the family is fine and minimum damage. Neighbor across the street from me was in Houston and said around 4 in the morning, it was howling, house shaking etc etc.

Keep the faith, He is in control even through all this!

    Godspeed!
    Dave

    We're still doing ok.
God has been kind to my family. We need a new roof on our house, so now we'll be good for another 20 years. At this point the only question is who is going to pay for it.

For those of you interested, here is the latest from the Houston area:

Gas is a problem, not a huge one though. You can find it, but you have to wait in very long lines.
Ice is the thing everyone wants. Thank God its pretty cool here. If it was 100 degrees people would be insane.
Power is still out everywhere. Less than 500,000 out of 3,000,000 have power.
Land and cell phone service comes and goes. iPhone works on Fchat, just takes some getting used to.
Houston is under a boil water order. My suburb is not.
Dusk to dawn curfew still in effect.

    The good news:
The people of Houston are doing this quite well. There is no panic, no widespread looting, etc. Sure you have a few bad apples here and there but overall we're doing it right and getting to work. People are not sitting around and waiting for someone else to do all the work.

Thanks again for you continued prayers, and good thoughts.

    We're ok

WOO HOO! Aircard just came up again. Lets see if I can upload these before it crashes again.

    Here are a few pictures:

#1 and #2 are down the street from my house on Saturday
    #3 gas station
#4 is a historical airplane that didn't do so well
#5 is the office building across the street from my wife's work
#6 is near the marina where we kept our boat
#7 and #8 were taken 6 hours BEFORE the storm. Look how bad the surge was then.

I hope things will get back to normal for you quickly. These pesky hurricanes are sometimes hard to shake off. Good luck.
