Hey Boaters, Sailors, Yachtsmen, let's see some photos of your water going vessels. We have lots of photos of your homes, significant others and land yachts on this forum but no boats. I will post some photos of mine soon but this is sometimes what my wife thinks about me with my boat. She is always on my case about the costs of owning a boat.

Bob- Fabulous boat! Especially that interior! Wow! Great that she has been kept in such period-correct condition.

I also like the Hollywood connection, as my special boat also has one. A 1953 Riva Tritone, delivered to film producer Roland Reed in March 1954. The first Riva sold to the USA. She has led a "Hollywood" life too; from weekend parties at Catalina, to a life of the rich and famous at Balboa, to land-locked dereliction in a barn. 55 years later she is slowly (and expensively) being brought back for another life. (echos of Sunset Boulevard?)

(this is sort of her 'coming out', as I have not posted anywhere else)

    James,

Good luck with the restoration! A beauty! I love seeing the old photos. I am happy to see that you are bringing back to life this historic boat. Unfortunately, most woodies don't make it. We have been restoring the Ida May for the past 4 years with focus on period restoration and we hope to save her as well for all to enjoy. Talk about dereliction - when we first found the Ida May she had already sunk in her slip and her transom and bow stem were eroding. It has been a tremendous expense and we hope to finish her one day, unfortunately we are tight on funds right now and we will have to wait until things improve. Some notables that have been on the Ida May include Ernest Hemingway, Pres. Herbert Hoover, Charlie Chaplin, and Howard Hughes. You can check out our restoration so far at www.idamay.org.

Have a great day and good luck with the restoration! It will require intestinal fortitude and a supportive wife.

    Bob

Well it is wooden so We have to change some parts once in a while. We have one guy hired to work on her all the time, When he comes to the end he can begin again on the other side.

There is tons of details and all sort on things to do at all times, so basicly never finished, but when you take her out for a ride PRICELESS.

Nice smell all natural. Really more personality and style as new plastic ones. It is like a car (they made them better in the old days).

    Cheers

It is a labor (labour - for our UK buddies) of love for old wooden boats. A never ending process. People always ask when are you going to be finished restoring your boat. I used to say in 6 months but now I realize it goes on in perpetuity.

I love seeing all the boats so far wooden or glass. Keep them coming!

The range is 375 to 400 miles at 37 mph. I can get much better range running 22 to 25 mph, but who wants to slow down?
