Sam, I thought I'd share my experiences with you. I can't remember the first time I chatted with Coach I. It must have been around 2000 or 2001. I was looking for my first Ferrari, and, somehow, I found out that he had two Daytonas. For someone who didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground about Ferraris, Coach was very patient, but firm. We chatted back and forth for the next few years then I took a left turn and brought a 1998 Ferrari - Maranello from someone else. Ironically, Coach later brought a similar Ferrari.

But what I enjoyed most about Coach was that he brought a lot of sanity to this rather strange place called Ferrari Chat. Sometimes things get a bit heated around here and start getting out of hand. Coach was famous for dropping in a quick zinger that would put everything in perspective.

    We're all gonna miss him.

    Dale

One of the things that I remember most was having a conversation with him about F40's. Now I am far from being an F40 owner but he always treated me like an equal. He was truly a standup gentleman.

Here is just one of many examples as to how helpful he was to our community:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154998

His words: "I am posting this for the benefit of other F40 owners and to express my thanks to those who gave me advice; especially dave helms, who really knows his stuff on F40's.

I took the heat shield and the air duct off the engine around the wastegate, removed the hat off the wastegate, cleaned the inside of the hat with scotchbrite white; moved the wastegate up and a down a few time, made sure the diaphragm was not stuck or bunched up, and put it back together with the help of another gentleman from supercars inc., of road atlanta.
We took the car for a spin. the boost was phenomenal, the wastegate worked well, and the car was a joy and the rocketship it is supposed to be. In case anyone experiences any "loss of boost" or stops hearing their wastegate hissing open to let extra boost out the middle exhaust pipe, maybe this will help.

Again thanks to all, and what a blast a properly boosting F40 can be."

Sam, I am very very sorry for your loss :(

It's heartbreaking to read through the posts in this thread!

I didn't know your brother (I live in Denmark) other than through his posts here on the F-Chat.

But he touched me in a positive way. I feel very sad that he is gone.

A great loss for all of us.:(

He is always a cool guy in my books, his comments always genuine and honest and an underlying contributer to this forum, bringing not only himself but his great cars too. Whats more, I'm 29 and to be honest looking at some pictures i sourced of him, he had enjoyed alot more of life than I so far :D and all i can say is i can only wish i have the cars and life he did when he was in his sixties! What a man, what a dad.

    Regards,

    Matthew

I considered coachi a real "car guy" who posted thoughtfully and never got caught up in P&R BS wars...I'm not at all surprised to learn he'd had such a distinguished career.

Agree, Fchat needs an in memoriam section that's open to all.

    Coach's Cars.
Just wanted to pass on some photos.
All bring back great memories. I was on cloud nine when I first set foot in that garage. I could have spent 3 days in there.

My best memory was at the 2007 Ferrari Cup. Coach was my golf partner and later that night Coach and I cut out of the concert at the Biltmore and we walked around looking at the cars. There must have been 30 Ferraris, and we looked over every one of them. With each car, he would tell me a story, or try to educate me, or point out little details. We had our own little concours, and ranked our 5 favorites out of the group. Then we compared notes, and he critiqued my rankings heavily. We must have spent an hour out there as the sun set, and it truly was one of my fondest memories. Every time he spoke, I think I was truly entertained. I will certainly miss him.
