That would be big time news for Motogp..I didn't see this on Autosport which usually has the latest info.

is this the rumor that just won't die, or truth?

I'd love to see it, but we've heard these rumors for years. much like Rossi "retiring" to Ferrari F1.

Wow.....that's huge news! I am very happy about it myself, it just seems so fitting for him to ride for an Italian team.

Now the big question is who's going, Hayden or Stoner?

There's a rumour Stoner will join Honda. Hayden will stay with Ducati.

Spies moves up to the factory Yammie team

    Rossi goes to Ducati

    Crashy Stoner to Honda

Makes sense... Spies has been impressive on the 2nd string bike. Put him on a factory bike and watch him and Lorenzo go at it. Stoner has been down the grid on the Duck this year, so I dont think they would shed too many tears to see him go. Rossi to Ducati? Hell, the MotoGP season would be one long italian wet dream. Can you imagine the value this would have for Ducati's marketing? Pay Rossi what he wants if Yammie aint willing and let your marketing dept. have a field day. You've got an American on the other Duck and the US is Ducati's biggest market.

Spies is going to be dangerous (in a good way) next year. He is fast now, but is still not as refined or as tactical as others.

Is Jeremy Burgess going with Rossi to Ducati or is he staying at Yamaha?

I heard that stoner already told Ducati he was going and they wont give him new stuff or setup information on his current bike hence the crashing. 2 races ago he had to go back to his old forks from previous season as the bike was garbage. As I have heard it he cant tell where the limit is or how to get more out of the bike, thats why he keeps crashing.

Rossi will be testing a WSB bike in Misano next couple days to see how his leg will hold up.

    He actually tested today:

Rossi went a 1'38.200 in his 2nd session. The motorcycle lap record is around 1'34:00 (Casey Stoner 2007). Anyway, pretty damn respectable especially on an R1.

... 1.38.20 wouldn't make it into the points in this year's World Superbike round at Misano. Best lap was by Troy Corser on his BMW: 1.35.00.

Best R1? Crutchlow did 1.35.77 in Superpole 2...

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

    Not true:

Luca di Montezemolo told me personally that he will have a 3rd car ready for Rossi next year.

Would be nice if Rossi went to FI instead of returning to MotoGP. There's nothing left for him to prove in MotoGP, but a lot to show in FI...

MotoGP needs a larger field (of capable riders), but would do fine without Valentino.

Sorry, I guess you needed the "pretty respectable* for a guy just coming off a compound fracture of his leg and first time back on a motorcycle" and not racing or trying to set a superpole on a bike he isn't familiar with. My apologies.

    *definition adjusted for circumstances

Everyone assumes this, but I am not so sure. The biggest carrot to get someone like Dovizioso to Yamaha would be the Fiat ride. Spies is under contract to Yamaha regardless and has less leverage in this situation. Assuming Rossi leaves and Stoner displaces Dovizioso at Honda, would Yamaha be better off having Dovizioso and Lorenzo and Spies, or just Lorenzo and Spies?

The other rider everyone forgets about is Hayden, who also is up for contract renewal. Right now prevailing opinion is that he will re-sign with Ducati if he can. So what happens if Rossi expresses displeasure with having him as a teammate? It would be another rider, at least as good as Spies IMO, as a possible option for the Fiat seat.

Many more dominoes left to fall.

If Rossi does in fact go to Ducati I'm pretty sure he'd insist on veto power on whoever his teammate will be.

He will want them to keep Hayden cause he is slower than Stoner.

Well, if he is allowed to take a suoperbike around a racetrack he must have recovered well; he can't be that bad, right? Besides, I thought the guy was superhuman....? :)
