http://www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm?SaleCode=GP07&CarID=r139 Yes, The customized interior, added fender shields, engine named in Red and the standout added for the Ferrari nose badge, seem like quite a bit of "customizing", whether you like that or not. I also noticed the Dino 246 GTS has Euro front side marker lights and USA front turn signal lights. The nose/badge bar is there too. Again it seems he favoured the extensive options on his cars. That is a fantastic amount of wine in his cellar.
Huge thanks to Phil (Digman52) for organizing this event, it was well worth the journey out to Marshall, TX. I took a massive amount of photos but I still feel I missed out on a lot of other items. This is truly an amazing collection that must be seen to believed. I'm still in the process of editing & uploading 150+ photos but they can be viewed here. Enjoy! http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/wjhmh/Gene%20Ponder%20Collection%202007/?start=all
Quite curious. The RM brochure (not the full catalogue) I received in the mail today identifies the "Touring Barchetta" as a 1955 212. But the web site for the auction identifies the same car as a 1949 166 MM.
Looking at RM's site now it seems my judgement of the Bugatti-replicars in the collection were not all wrong! There is still a few that is not listed yet, but the 35B and the 55 roadster are now listed as "recreations"!!! The Type 57G "Tank" and the Type 52 (Baby-Bugatti) which I saw pictures of elswhere are definately in the same category! The Bugatti vice is almost certain to be a "replica" too, made by "Establisimiento PurSang" in Argentina along with the type 55, 35B and 52 Baby-Bugatti! Looking forward to see the listings for the remaining lots on RM's site! Best Carsten
Rob: Since this is your 'neck of the woods', do you have any info regarding the memorabilia? I saw original Prancing Horse floor tile (framed), a genuine DINO Service backlit sign, and other goodies....how do these items get listed/bid on? Oh, and why is this auction even happening?
All the memorabilia will be auctioned and I think on ebay too, not sure how that works. When there EVERYTHING was numbered. Check with RM. Wife got cancer, I think doing fine now, but Gene said it changed his perspective on things. Understandable.
http://www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm?SaleCode=GP07&CarID=r139 Is it me, or do the instruments in this 330 appear to have been modified? It looks like the faces of the instrument cluster are almost horizontal. Of course, the steering wheel also looks horizontal, so, is it the cameral angle, or has the dash been modified? Also...where's the wood dash? were some made without it?
http://www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm?SaleCode=GP07&CarID=r139 Those photos are so small that it makes it difficult to tell. The single photos showing the cockpit instruments does show a lot of bright reflections making it ever so more difficult.
Interesting that RM has now linked this auction to e-bay. Some of the automotive miniatures are listed there, but you have to register and fill out a bidder's form! One example is: http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/2517-BENTLEY-MODEL-CAR-BY-FULGUREX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ28272QQihZ005QQitemZ150112564494QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Ebay and RM have a Live auction deal. If you have never been to Marshall (i have to meet ponder) there isn't enough hotel and other things to host an auction like this without the net/phone bidding process... I will be out there
bada bump Tis this weekend Some good stuff there Also the next on the Ferrari sched after the pondering might be houston Keels and Wheels WWGAuctions.com some good there too
Yes, Ebay has offered Live auction venuess the ability to bid through the Ebay system for years, I've done it with other collectibles... BUT, watch out for the Ebay surcharge, it isn't free!
The results from this auction are amazing. I can't believe what the memorabilia went for. I am never throwing away another nut, bolt, clamp or fitting! Seriously though, it looks like some great pieces found appreciative new owners.
RM's site does not have the results from this auction up as of this morning. Where did you see the results?
Someone has gone insane! Almost a million dollars for a 76 hp Alfa 6c2300B SEDAN with a modern REPLICA spider body!
$ 184.250,-- for one of the ugliest barchetta recreations ever is way too much. you can buy a decent original vintage ferrari for this.
