Without the mid-body line nor the rocker panels being black looks a little "plain and naked" to me (and interesting with no side markers at all being present), but I want to ask a question about RHD 308 interiors -- is the shifter gate on the wrong side of the center console of stock RHD 308 (like this one) or is this just a spoof and someone had a photo negative printed backward?

No, the gearstick is the on the correct side for proper RHD market cars. This one looks very strange. The horse is facing the correct way.

    Gents,

If that car is really 19793 as indicated, get it as fast as you can (even with the wrong rear view-mirrors):

19793 is listed as a Glass car ("Vetroresina") on Robert Retzlaff register...

The fit of the headlights is pretty scarey ! The clocks appear have been moved to the driver's left and there's no a/c - groovy yellow stripes on seats....

Well the interior photo looks like a lhd car whilst the exterior photo looks rhd. Are these 2 different cars?

Looking at this Gullwing photo and taking it at face value(I.e. No negative/reverse printing etc.) then the gearshift is on the wrong side for RHD. That's why this looks very strange.

Correct. Steve's question was "is the shifter gate on the wrong side of the center console of stock RHD 308". My answer was no, they are not.

The boot release lever is on the wrong side for an RHD car.

Could the car have been shipped to the UK (or another RHD country), at sometime in its life and then shipped back to the US later on?

    From the F-register

    19893 308 GTB Vetroresina 76 EU LHD, F

But it could be wrong as VR. BigTex car is also registered as a VR and is not.

It's not a mirrored pic. The stop sign in the background is correct.

It's blatantly a LHD car that's been converted to RHD (and in desperate need of having the headlight pods adjusted properly!)

A wild guess: is there any clockwise oval track racing in the US that would warrant a RHD 308?

It looks like a standard road car rather than anything set up for racing (and the advantage of a RHD over a LHD on an oval would be negligible anyway TBH - It simply wouldn't be worth the effort involved ).

My monies still on a US car that was exported and then re-imported for some reason.

The car is now showing as being sold - I just hope someone hasn't been conned into buying a car that isn't as special as the seller was claiming it was!

    Bringing this one back again:

Now for sale on ebay.co.uk for £55K ($86K): 1977 RHD 308 carb model | eBay

Looks like someone's hoping to double their money without having to do anything to car! (BTW, I have no affiliation to this car or the seller whatsoever! ).

The VIN plate is showing 22009 rather than 19793 as stated in the original US advert.

The plot thickens because the advert states that the car is a UK car in the USA that has has US spec bumpers fitted, but as previously noted, the wipers and hood are LHD and the boot release is on the wrong side for an original RHD car. The rear engine lid is a European spec lid though.

Also strange is that the VIN plate states: "THIS VEHICLE CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS IN AFFECT ON THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE SHOWN ABOVE".

If the car really is a UK spec car then I doubt the VIN plate would mention "FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS" as they are not applicable to UK cars (perhaps a UK 308 GTB owner could check the wording on their VIN plates to confirm this).

Hopefully someone will eventually reset the headlight pods back to their correct positions!

If the car is indeed 22009, then according to Robert Retzlaff site, it is an AUSTRALIAN specification model that was spotted in the USA.

If it was an Australian market car originally then all of the LHD parts on it would definitely not be original as LHD cars are not legal for use on the roads.

There's definitely something very strange going on with this car! - There's such a mix of LHD and RHD specification on it that I'd be concerned that it might not be the original 22009 but could be an original LHD car that's had RHD parts fitted to it!

You've got RHD seating/pedals/and dashboard, a LHD centre console (the gear lever should be next to the drivers seat and not the ashtray), A LHD hood and wiper arrangement and the boot release is on the side for a LHD car not RHD.

Also, why would you go to the trouble of fitting US spec bumpers? - To conform to US Laws? Surely if that was the case then you'd fit US side markers too?

The headlight pod heights are also a concern and the lack of a black waistline around the car would indicate that it's had paint at sometime (okay, very few of these cars will not have had paint by now but you would have thought the black waistline would have been redone!).

The listing is now showing as: "This listing has ended. "

All in all it's a strange one! - I just hope someone hasn't bought a car that's not exactly what the advert claims it to be!
