Wow. Did you know... CoD Black Ops DVD can be removed from the system. And...you can play movies with this thing!
Not amazon's outage, that was coincidental from what I'm reading. With PSN's outage, it is one of a few things or maybe more. Rumor has it anonymous attacked the PSN. But if that were the case, would it be compromised for this long? Some other rumors are stating a team infiltrated the PSN. Another one is more plausible, where users were hacking their PS3's, turning them into developer boxes and would purchase tons of games, exploiting the playstation store. At the risk of a RROD?! That's why I never could buy one. Maybe with the new chassis and improved cooling, but I'm not repurchasing games for another console.
And more rumors surface. This was just another random rumor, posted in the comments section of an article on kotaku.
I've been doing homework. I don't do much online so it hasn't affected me much. My roommate who is always playing Black Ops isn't happy though.
I've been studying for exams... so no problems for me so far... although I do hope it will be up and running by Friday so I can get some GT5 on... if not... I'll try playing one of my new single player games I have yet to start... Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood or Fallout: New Vegas. On a side note... Netflix DOES work (my SO has been using it the entire time), just click through all the login attempts, and you'll eventually get to your queue.
Sony took it down because hackers got a hold of personal information that was on the network including names, addresses, birthdays, etc... There is even the possibility that they got CC numbers. http://ingame.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/04/26/6538683-hackers-stole-personal-data-from-playstation-network
So then I would assume that this also has happened to XBOX/MICROSOFT but they care to do nothing about it.
Luckily I've never given the PSN my new credit card #. I got the same email... guess it's time to go around changing my passwords again...
Neither did I, the only time I bought anything through Play Station Store was with gift cards I received back during the holidays. With 75 million user accounts compromised, makes me wonder how many were set up with credit or debit card, if not their parents info as well.
Hmmm....I didn't get that e-mail! Probably because I set it up with an inactive e-mail account and provided the wrong birthday information. I do have a credit card attached to the account though and they have my username/password information Bastards....
Never really got into the online play feature but do enjoy using it for netflix and i have downloaded a few games through it. I always buy those gift cards and use the code on the card for purchase.
I am not too worried about CC #'s. The real issue here is your email address, user name, password, address, and your security questions/answers. How many people use the same login for everything? How many people use the same password? What about the security questions and answers? They can easily use this information to gain access to other accounts at other places- like your bank or email. They can use this information for more than just charging money to your credit card...
I've only bought a few things off of the network. Some of the downloadable games are pretty cool but most don't interest me. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days with this though. I have a feeling this was an inside job. Just my gut reaction.
I don't think I bought anything. I gave my 40GB PS3 to my brother-in-law. I don't think he has bought anything either. I sold my unopened 120GB, so I hope I'm good. I keep getting e-mails from PSN though.
This is true, and also why I have unique usernames and passwords for my extremely sensitive websites (like banking). In not such important cases, I do use the same username for several websites, but have a couple different passwords that I pick from. Even in these cases, I've already gone through and changed the passwords for every website that uses the same handle as I do on my PS3. Everyone else should do the same. Sent from my DROIDX
I still play GT5 offline. Mainly do laps on the 'Ring. I also start Nascar races on Daytona and crash head-on into cars. I've had some pretty epic crashes happen. I also just bought World at War, so that's keeping me busy too.
I put Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood into the PS3 for the first time this weekend, ended up playing all afternoon yesterday. While I was out and about even my girlfriend started it up and did some of the more mundane stuff while I was gone. Worked out nicely... she entertained herself for a while, and I came back with a lot of the grinding stuff done! I LOVE Assassin's Creed BTW!
