This is the first time I'm going to do a PPI. I'm looking for best practices and advice.

    1. Who is the best to do it?
    2. Does the dealer allow you to take the car for the day to do it with or without a deposit?
    3. How much leverage does it give you for negotiation?

    Appreciate any advice....

you might as well ask "is there a God?" for question number 4.

    1) someone you trust, if you dont have someone you trust, then someone in your area that other people trust. can be an independent.
    2) nothing says they have to let you - depends how bad they want to sell the car - depends if they own it or ifs it consigned.
    3) maybe some, maybe nothing. depends what is found etc.
    4) im pretty sure there is a God.

what car is it? im sure someone on the regional board can recommend who to take it to.

good luck and enjoy the process - its always a bit of closing your eyes ans hoping for the best. ive bought cars with PPId great and they cost me money later. I have bought cars off of ebay sight unseen and they've been fine. its all very random.
