a lot has been made about the sound of a ferrari V12 but there is some confusion between the noises made. when i say the car sounds like a harmonica some people don't understand. i guess they were focusing on the exhaust note like many people do, but that is for the spectators we as drivers don't hear the exhaust that well. i found a perfect example on youtube of the sound i am enjoying most. i made a comment that it reminded me of BMW 6 cylinders and it still does!

Nothing sounds better than a V12.... nothing.

Yep don't understand the aftermarket exhaust interest for these cars. Such a unique sound from these and yes the interior engine noise is the point.

Every tom dick and Harry nowadays surge drives up and down the strip for the exhaust overrun effect. Incredibly wasteful and idiotic. Bring on EV.

Having said that i heard a late model Camry the other day with tons of mods (?) at it sounded at low rev cruise like a Lamborghini 12. It was kind of amazing

found a video by same people in a 458!
my 458 spider didn't have the same harmonics. it was lower in pitch and didn't sound like several tunes blending it just had a flat 1 note wail. this video sounds very good more like a trumpet than a symphony.

Yeah the tuning is what makes a TDF about $700k more than a regular F12.

i think it had more to do with the limited 799 production numbers. that being said it is estimated that there are only 4500 F12s ever produced and about 1500 of them here in the USA. would be nice if that could push the F12 prices more towards TDF range lol!

Thats because a V12 is kinda like 2 straight 6s put together.

So its like the BMW 6, but way better because 12> 6 :)

I just installed the Capristo valve controller and that may be all you need.

would you mind sharing cost breakdown?
i was just going to unplug the valve hoses and plug them up so valves always open... 1 hour of work on a lift = $180

Valve controller is about $500 and labor was about 2 hours.

I have a 458 Spider and an 812. They sound very different. I'm not going to say one is better than the other as I love them both. The V12 is more a symphonic sound especially compared to the the 458 which is more a sharper sound (scream to my ears). The V12 also give the aural sensation that the RPM's are higher than they are compared to the V8. If you jump into the 458 after flogging the 812, you will be more prone to hitting the rev limiter just going by ear.

If anyone is familiar with the Detroit Diesel 2 stroke engines that always sounded as if they were running twice as fast and ready to explode will know what I mean. At a given RPM, the V12 is firing more than a V8.

I went the cheap way Just pulled the valve hoses it's open all the time now. Much more grunt at low revs. Hardly any drone noise at highway speeds. 1 hour labor best mod I've done so far!

FWIW I dont have a F12, have a LussoV12 and I think hands down 458 sounds better and louder. Lusso is built quieter than F12, I understand.
Lambo V10 and 12 really own the space to be fair.

That definitely works but figured I would like the option of making it quite if I am on call.

FF sounded better but cabin noise more professional on my Lusso. The startup is close but still not as magical. My F12 is simply breathtakingly loud and throaty.

I understand how some go back and find a loud 12 after getting the next less loud new 12.
