I am looking at a 1985 Mondial coupe. Consider the following: 1) It is Black in color; 2) Has 13,000 miles; 3) Don't know the service history; 4) It is in very good physical condition..ie the paint, upholstery, wheels all present as a 13,000 mile car should; 5) It does leak some oil...don't know where from...but; 6) Let's assume it requires a full 30K service...I would not be comfortable using the car with 21 year old belts with only 13,000 miles on them so that is one of the first things I would do. So assuming everything else checks out (compression, leak down, tranny shifts and car drives as it should) what is a fair price for this car? Seller is looking for bids. Would I be getting a bargain at $20K for example? thanks, Blaine.
I think 20k would be fair - not a bargain - but not a ripoff, either. I've seen clean, low-mile, red/tan QV convertibles priced in the low 20's (23-25). After a 30k service, you should be in that ballpark in terms of out-of-pocket expense. Whenever I hear about private sellers taking bids (outside of an actual auction, of course), it always makes me think that the seller *thinks* the car should be worth more than he *knows* it is, so instead of setting an asking price, he takes "bids" in the hopes that somebody else (who doesn't know any better) will also think the car is worth more than it is.
Here are two good threads. Check out he dark maroon coupe on the 2nd thread, Page 2 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113660&highlight=mondial+price http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104185&page=2&highlight=mondial+price
