Original George Barris Batmobile EVERYONE knows what that is. Ever notice how any swoopy-looking car inevitably gets called a "batmobile"? It's become a generic name, like Kleenex or Jello or Band-Aids.
I think the Delorean is probably the most famous nostaglic car. I don't think there is anyone on this planet who doesn't know what a Delorean is. I really want one. But the fact that they are pieces of junk is holding me back.
I'm gonna go with the Delorean. Honorable mention would go to Herbie, and in the US, the Dukes of Hazard Charger, for Europe, replace it with the DB5.
I would say Delorean. Herbie, Elanor, General Lee (isn't that what it's called?) etc. are perhaps somewhat less known to the public, but Back To The Future movies are often shown in re-runs on TV-stations all over the world very often. The other cars might be the "recognizable" list, but I can only think of one which is really famous in both US and Europe. It could be Batmobile, but it doesn't count as there are many versions and not that one car that everybody knows...
I think that most of you are looking at this from a "car guy's" perspective. You have no idea how many people in this world have no clue what a Delorean is, what make of car Kennedy was riding in when he was shot, or what car James Bond used to drive back before product placement dictated this. Easily the most recognizable make/model car in the world is the VW Beetle. If you're going for a specific individual car, however, you have to think world-wide (sorry General Lee lovers), women, young people (so much for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and children. Where does this leave us?
... waiting for the answer. The James Bond franchise is probably a good starting point. The DB5 wouldn't be recognizable to many, but the Lotus Esprit (Spy Who Loved Me) might be. Miami Vice may also have been a hit outside the US, so that 'white' Testarossa could rate at or near the top. But I'll stick with James Dean and the Little Bastard. Worldwide Hollywood icon.
Both are mine....only one left. Deloreans are well know in North America, Europe, Aus. A beetle would be recognized globally. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Geez, I was just noting a fact. Deloreans are awesome cars and the concept was great. It will always be a very unique and pretty car. They just screwed up royally on the execution of the assembly and parts. Ask anyone who owns them, they'll tell you. The brakes were from Ford, the engine was Puegot, the list goes on. They are complete Frankenstein cars. I don't see how that translates to me having a bad attitude. Oh well
Worldwide, has to be the JFK car. World history at large here, not Hollywood. If we're speaking of the OP's original question, a photo or the tape of the tragedy would be viewed by most of the world in school, although I agree the actual make is superfluous. I believe the only other vehicle in contention would be the lunar rover. Or the Beverly Hillbillies Buick
Ahhh.....well take a look at the post right above your last one. Out of curiosity, care to elaborate on your "list" that goes "on and on" I didn't say you had a bad attitude......I said "with that attitude" To say that you've always wanted one, except they are "pieces of junk" Sounds like you're misinformed more than anything. I guess the only way to find out if it is indeed what you say it is. Would be to buy a Delorean, and not just own it.....but drive it. Exactly.
VW bug. No question. Just look at those Herbie movies plus they made like 10 million of them or more.
