So what is it? (I realize the film crews had multiple vehicles, but you get the idea)

    Elanor?
    Magnum's 308?
    Herbie the Love Bug?
    The General Lee?
    Crockett's Testarossa?
    OJ's white Bronco?
    James Dean's Lil' Bastard?
    Insert your candidate here...

    Please discuss.

Which one? Adam West's? Christian Bale's? The Tumbler is my favorite, but not the most recognizable imo.

DeLorean one is a pretty good pick...

World wide it's got to be either Herbie (the VW "love bug") or James Bond's silver DB5 (goldfinger)...

...in the US then you could include the General Lee (Dukes of Hazzard)....another famous Dodge Charger, would be Blade's all black Charger...

...of course this being FerrariChat, then a nod has to go to Magnum PI's 308 :)

Well I think the moon rover does win... but the OP's list has a glaring omission of the Mach 5 in it.

Edit: And the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car which I believe is going up for auction in the next few weeks. (or similar)

NO all the above are wrong including the moon rover. JFK's convertible. Case Closed (pun intended)

Just has to be this one... he crashed it back in 1955 and young people today still know who James Dean is, and that he drove a Porsche. Even people who know nothing about cars could probably come up with the name painted on the back of it.

On top of that, there's the legend over guys dying after installing the transaxle or other parts of the car on their race cars back in the day, and the mythology about how it "disappeared" from the trailer while in George Barris' ownership.

The DB5 is a good candidate.

Not sure about Magnum PI, because there's probably a generation or two that has never seen the show, and it's hardly the classic that Goldfinger is.

To me the DB5, J.Ds Porsche, Magnums 308 are all cars that would be recognized by car guys.

    Back to the Future Delorean
    General Lee
    Herbie
    Batmobile
and even the Beverly Hillbillies jalopy would be instantly recognizable by most people regardless of age, race, & gender.

Three cars that instantly came to mind were

    Doc Brown's De Lorean
    Bandit's Trans Am
    George Barris Batmobile

I'm going to add one more

Falcon Coupe from The Road Warrior

You have to love the hood-mounted air intake...gas tanks in back and the dash-mounted shotgun

The General Lee is a great pick too

I imagine Fred Flintstone's ride has to be up there, both in the US and globally.
Dick Dastardly's car too, but not as much as Fred's.

The Lincoln assassination convertible is a good choice, as is the Delorean.

The movie defined the Delorean so much that even non-car people know what it is and refer to one as the Back to the Future car. That movie stands the test of time surprisingly well, I'm sure our kids will also watch and enjoy the movie years from now.

I thought he got shot in a theater & JWB escaped on a horse? LOL - JK :)

My vote would be the Delorean.

I could see going with the delorean, and Magnum's 308 however I think everyone knows about that orange dodge with the confederate flag on the roof. So my vote would be with the General Lee
