I think the E32 is the pinnacle of BMW's golden period, the E39 and E38 that came later being technically better, but quite safe developments, and the bodies are slightly timid especially the E39. With the E32 they were striving hard to better the S Class and make the best car in the world. After the E39 and E38 I think the company completely lost their way, changed or sold out.

and it looks much better with the thin grill of the six cylinder cars than the wide grill of the V12 in my opinion ........................

I was lucky to own a Maserati Ghibli II and Shamal, both designed by Marcello Gandini, and loved them.

The Quattroporte IV was labelled by Jeremy Clarkson as perhaps the worst car of all time. I suspect this is rubbish and would love to get a proper drive in one. I remember seeing a 3200 and Quattroporte IV at the motor show when they were new, and they did look an elegant pair. Both in a silver with a hint of gold, expertly lighted.

I'd rather go with Harry Metcalfe's opinion of the Shamal, from his Harry's Garage video. I imagine this car feels strongly related to the Shamal and the Ghibli II, in which case it can't be the worst car of all time. Anyway, any car designed by Marcello Gandini is wonderful. I don't think there are any exceptions though I have to admit I don't get the Lamborghini Jamara.

I would back Harry Metcalfe's opinion over Jeremy Clarkson's any day of the week.

I was lucky enough to have owned a 3.8 M5 with the Nurburgring pack, with the earlier thin grill which I think suits it much better. Great car, wonderful engine.

When I sold one of my Maserati, I phoned the buyer at the airport and said I was in the 5 Series. He strode over and opened the door and said "What the F*** is this? I thought the deal was off. He would never drive a german car, and remained decidedly unimpressed with its "cold germanic efficiency" throughout the journey. He was a very nice guy though. Just didn't trust the character of anyone who would drive such an abomination.

    That's funny!

I've had two E34s. The first was a '93 U.S. spec M5. Loved the car, but apparently mother nature wasn't too impressed. It got caught outside in a hail storm. I drove it for a couple more years before selling it to a guy who planned on tracking the car.

My current is a '95 540i/6. Since the photo I've added an M-Tech front bumper.
