I predicted this last week as a joke. It does seem like the right thing for him. He was not progressing in F1 and his bump and grind agressivness is well suited to NASCAR. Good luck to him.
Turn on Speed right now, the press conference is going on, JPM seems happy to be leaving, i wish him well.
THIS IS PERFECT. JUAN PABLO PLAYS BUMPER CARS IN EVERY SERIES HE'S IN, NASCAR IS A PERFECT FIT FOR HIM. I can hear him now after causing a 30-car pile-up: "Rubbin's racin'." THIS IS A DAY FOR FORMULA 1 FANS TO REJOICE! IMAGINE HOW MUCH DIFFERENT THE US GP WOULD HAVE BEEN IF HE HAD ALREADY LEFT FOR NASCAR! My prediction - he will get TAGGED by the good ol' boys that drive now, they will NOT like an open wheeler invading their turf, especially someone who's not from the heartland. Are there any other drivers in NASCAR from any other country than the US? The sooner the better.....Take the Aguri guys with you, JPM.
I knew this would happen. JPM is my favorite driver and I had big hopes for him in F1, but he likes to mix it up and that's not F1 racing. He should do well in NASCAR. But why NASCAR? In the interview he said he wanted to go some place that still has racing. Even MS said that F1 is boring, but he said, "The fans still love it." I hate NASCAR, so I won't be watching this. But since NASCAR owns the Rolex Grand Am series we'll get to see him in a prototype for sure at the 24-hours of Daytona. - Bill
In response to a question about significance of an F1 driver moving to NASCAR and NASCAR not being considered racing by the rest of the world... "If it's not racing, I wouldn't be coming here ... Anyone that watches the [F1] races they know it's not the most exciting thing you can watch. You know, no disrespect. You know, how hard is it to pass in Formula 1? And then if you pass and touch wheels, then you're an animal." (Laughter)
I thought I was still asleep when I tuned into Speed this morning.. This is going to be entertaining, both is good, and bad ways.. Todd
He looks like he looking forward to the challenge. How is that a slap in the face? It's F1's loss, now no one will ever try to pass anyone.
Interesting that the underlying theme in the conference was JPM saying he wanted to go 'back to racing' I'm excited about this, should be a great fit. He's a great racer. Who else has won in CART, F1 and soon NASCAR?
This seems to be giving NASCAR more credibility I swear when CART committed suicide by splitting in 2 that must have been 1 of the worst business decisions of the 20th C
Graham Rahal is on the Atlantic pole at Toronto today. 4 poles. 3 wins. He is going to be Atlantic's youngest champion ever.
Brilliant coup by NASCAR....attracting the attention of the burgeoning Hispanic market in the US, possibly expanding the series into Latin America, getting some attention from F1 fans. Jack
He will be the first to win the Indy 500, Monaco GP, and Daytona 500. I wish him luck and I will start watching NASCAR in addition to F1. He's still my favorite driver.
