I finally have some time to mess with the picture I took in April during a trip to China. I picked up a used RX100M2 before we left, and shot in RAW+JPG. While I'm pretty good with the Abode publishing stuff (InDesign, etc) - I'm a total rookie with Lightroom. Overwhelmed to say the least. Do these before/after look better or worse? So many options, so many choices...lol.

    Hmm.

The "after" doesn't look so blue in Lightroom vs. after uploading to FC.

In the first picture I prefer the before

The picture is the wall and the person

The person in the after, the colors do not look right

The added green takes away from the wall as does the overly blue sky

Having said that, I do know that the look of pictures changes when they are downsized to what fits in this forum

In the second picture I prefer the after
The definition of the stone is much better

The person is a little too bright but OK

The tower in the back is better as well

    Looks like a great trip

    Thanks for posting
    Dan

    Thanks Dan!

Been playing around a little bit more today. The RX100M2 sure is a lot of camera for the money - I sure with I knew how to use it better. The amount of data in these files is crazy. Here is one I've been playing with - tried to get a quick shot of this guy, but it was cluttered up with a few other people in our group. Tweaked this one a little bit - but less than the previous two posted above. Probably better, no? I bet this dude could tell a few stories.

i made a few minor changes to the photo.
first, i increased the color saturation of the entire photo.
then i simply darkened the top of the wall.
i prefer gentle tweaking when modifying photos.
the problem is knowing what to tweak!

I prefer the original, but I only have an amateur eye.

Don't always trust 'auto' settings. Most of the time, they are far from right. Keep on experimenting. It's the only way to become proficient in lightroom.

What system are you using? Notebook? Mac/windows? which one? Or a desktop, and which monitor/graphics card? Colors can be different.

i use an imac, but the platform really doesn't matter.
most software works similarly in either windows or on a pc.

The system can matter when it comes to color, which is why I think he was asking. Macs are generally brighter than Windows machines. Color management is a pretty deep topic and can yield different results depending upon your setup.

If you really want ultimate control, with maximum dynamic range, you should be shooting in RAW. Looking at this thread, most of the originals are better. Camera's do a pretty good job of processing the images.

*thumbs up* Yup, that's why I ask. Macs are brighter, and on the other hand, low end notebooks like my Dell next to me is more about greys and blues, with some odd artifacts at certain angles.
