You used to be able to get on the track at the Porsche curves and drive right up to the start straight. This as you say was in the early '80's. I did this for a couple of years, but this was on the Friday, I have some photos somewhere of our cars on the startline.

Never managed to get down to the Esses and Tetre Rouge (before it joins the public road) though

Dont know what it was called but if you head into Arnage from the circuit and turned left at the roundabout in the centre it was the first one on the right.

I dont know about any one else but i cannot remember being this excited. Wait a minute yes i can, it was this time last year.

After sixteen years of going to Le Mans the excitment never subsides. I can not imagine how exciting it must be for those of you who are going for the first time.

Going to Le Mans is like winning the lottery, the boat race, the FA cup, The champions league, the sun bingo and the the wife doing the off all in one week.

    Bring it on.

As someone who has gone with Stewart for a few years now can I please point out one thing. Stewart "talking Bull**** for an hour" can last well over 3 hours. You only after do the maths - he is arriving at Indianapolis before 9.00 and going for lunch at Arnage after 12.00.

I for one will be taking a temporary BBQ for a brunch of sausages (British) and baguettes (French). I suggest others do the same.

sorry stewart, but i just cannot begin to get excited about:
    i) spending two days in intensive heat, in a small, noisy sports car, travelling across europe, and with no air con.
ii) sleeping in a tent for four nights.
iii) sleeping on a double mattress with another bloke.
iv) gina having to spend the night "outside"
    v) spending copious amounts of money on alcohol and remembering nothing.
    vi) having to suffer mornings.
    vii) hangovers every day.
viii) not being able to sleep one night for cars riding round and around.
ix) having to catch the return ferry at ten o'clock on the monday morning.
    x) no beaver for miles.
    kind regards, d

(ps ... i am only joking, no more pm's please)

would you believe it ? .... two weeks of the TT, motor bikes, sunshine and alcohol, has now come to an end.
But, martyr as I am, today saw me straight into practice for the Le Mans trip.
There's just no rest for the wicked !

is everyone taking a throw away BBQ of some sort ? I guess head to supermarket for meat and coal etc etc each day.

Thought about buying a travel BBQ from Halfords, but too big !!! Have found and inflatable beer cooler, just add ice and water !

To the north of the town is a large complex with a number of supermarkets, one guiant one, cannot remember the name. You can buy anything there except on a Sunday, it closed. I am not sure about any others, this one was the closest to the hotel.

Apparently Carrefour is the nearest and biggest hypermarket to the circuit!

Yes it is on the N138, Tours road, heading North from Tetre Rouge just before you reach the ring road. There is also a small supermarket in the centre of Arnage

8.00am Seacat from Dover on Wednesday morning. We are in a hotel Wednesday night and then in Maison Blanche Campsite from Thursday morning.

Hopefully I will see you at Indianapolis Friday morning 9.30ish and afterwards for a beer in Arnage.
