    Well said.

As Spook said earlier, he's spent $32k over 3 years. That's a LOT less than the depreciation he would have had if he had purchased a new 360. But then again, he could probably get that all back in today's market.

Luckily, I've spent very little on my 330. Knock wood, I bought a well-sorted car.

And the prices are NOT going to fall. The question is: how high will they go?

I completely rebuilt the transmission on the car in question with parts for $2500 and a couple hours of labor. Car was sold the day after it arrived and the transmission rebuild by my senior engine builder, Jens Paulsen, was part of the deal.

Those are the facts. Not hearsay.

A LOT warmer here than when I lived in Chicago from 1954 to 1968! The lowest it has gotten so far in SLC proper was about 20. It's been in the 40s almost every day!

My teaching was at Cambridge in England. Hawking was my boss.

I didn't want to bother Bill, as I don't know who actually owns the car....I just decided to e-mail him...

Well, most of my experience has been with Alfas and the like. $5000 for an engine job is a lot less than $25,000 or more :)

With current asking-price figures for 330 2+2's, all models, at about 50% more than three years ago, and assuming sales prices directly proportional, in theory it would take me $48K to buy the same car now that I paid $32K for then.

Of the $32K spent on top of the purchase price, $4K+ of that was for acquisition costs: Texas tax, title, & license, transport from CA to TX, PPI, and other related expenses, giving me about $28K spent in hard reconditioning and maintenance costs. Add on another $2.5K for gas and insurance.

Sell and break even, make money, "lose" 10% or more...no plans to sell, and all irrelevant when I consider that it's the best time I've ever had with a car.

DR: Still the same, $5000 for an engine job on an Alfa is about 50% of the cars value, so it is hard to pencil. By the way, I loved all 4 Alfas I had. See it is just a sickness, not an investment.

Not any more. A decent 60s Alfa is at least $20,000...

Dang - that's great news, because I'm going to be needing a gearbox rebuild pretty soon on a 365 GT 2+2. Which address shall I send it to? :^)
