    Going to do my own oil change in the next few days, and the tech manual suggest disconnecting and draining the oil lines,

    Any ideas if this is fully necessary? how much old oil could possibly be in there?

    Yes, you will need to drain it. It’s the capacity of the oil cooler and the lines that will drain

    I haven't gotten to doing it yet on my F12, but in videos I've seen a good amount come out from the lines. I wouldn't skip it.

    You need to do it. its not just the lines, but the cooler that you are draining. it's a good liter, if not more.
