Just wondering how many Ferrari owners also own the Italian exotic of motorcycles, Ducati. I'm tempted by a Ducati 848....post some pics!

FYI, a Ducati is more of a mass produced Italian Chevy of motorcycles. An MV Augusta is the Italian Ferrari-exotic of motorcycles.

But the Ducati requires frequent belt changes.

    Well...

Ducati = Champs in MotoGP and Ferrari = Champs in F1

Both have a great racing heritage.

IMHO they are very comparable. MV Agusta is owned by a finance group, enough said... More like Lamborghini.

And the Desmosedici RR must be the FXX of Ducati :)

    Actually Agusta, not Augusta

I'd say Moto Guzzi is more of the pedestrian Italian ride.

Ducati may be common but they are high performance; the Chevy comparison is unfair.

That's not fair. At least in its prior iteration MV won more GPs than any other brand in the world. Is the current MV the same company? Prob not, but like Triumph, its nice to see it back.

"Make mine an ST3 and demount the hard bags, and put a Cafe Racer fairing on a red Monster 600 for Lady Valeria..."

I also really like the retro models they are reintroducing......

The 1999 Ducati yearbook says it all, with portaits of world wide owners...they obviously are HUGE fans of the machine, from old coots in Italy, to hot Asian chicks on 996s..........wowza! :D :D

Sadly, my family exacted a promise after my near fatal motorcycle incident 8-28-82* that I give up the sport forever, and made it conditional to my Family's Trusts, so I'm pretty tightly sewn up, until the last member of the accord has passed.......

They even stopped current distributions, over the Ferraris! LOL!

No matter........I often urge Lady Valeria to go get our pair with HER name on the title, especially last Christmas when Robb Report Motorcycling had the article on "His and Hers Ducatis"...I'm too tall for the 999/1098....too severe a riding position for this old broken man.....

*Broken jaw, multiple contusions and lacerations to the head and face, concussion/unconsciousness, extreme loss of blood, 500 stitches to the head and face after probed removal of crushed automotive windshield glass fragements, loss of hearing due to internal bleeding of the inner ear.....

Ducati makes awesome motorcycles but they are far from exotic. I'm not sure if there are any motorcycle manufacturers comparable to Ferrari. Bimota came to mind but they don't even produce their own engines.

In the motorcycle world, there are only a handful of truly exotic models. Ducati's Desmosedici RR and Honda's NR750 are the only two that come to mind.

If there were more than a handful then they wouldn't be exotic, would they?

Part of the definition, really. Perhaps Britten is the best Ferrari comparison, but that story ended a bit too soon to know for sure.

Chevy is made by the largest (or second largest depending on how Toyota is doing) producer of cars and trucks in the world - GM.
I doubt Ducati makes enough bikes to be in the top 10 motorcycle producers in the world, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't in the top 20 worldwide. I'd call it maybe the Lotus of motorcycles.

Chevy's have ruled the roast in racing from SCCA, NASCAR, NHRA for decades and now the Petite Lemans series with the Corvette...the street Z06 ain't a slouch either...

But those really have nothing in common with the street versions. They only look like Chevy's. Bikes are pretty damn close to the race versions.

Agree on comparison of Ferrari to Ducati - not even close. My Ferrari is great, but the 999 is outrageous.

Everyone here is comparing the two based on production or 'exoticity' it seems, which overlooks what really matters; how about w.respect to design, aesthetics, character, performance, racing heritage, sound, feel?! Have those of you comparing them by production ever owned a Ducati? I own three and have owned Ducs for many years, ample time owning and in the saddle to have developed a feel and understanding of them. Hell they're even akin in maintenance issues and electrical gremlins. I seriously wonder how many of you are qualified - beyond 2nd hand chatter or armchair quarterbacking - to make a valid comparison :)

Anyway, I love piloting both; not sure one more than another but they're just different. They both put lead in my pencil :D
