Technically they don't exist any longer. It's now a private shop and not all of the original people are involved.

Grand Touring was a great shop which started in Laurel Maryland. I used to go there on almost a weekly basis, just to see what they had in the shop. Great place with the nicest and most knowlegable owner, Chuck, that you can imagine.

They pulled stakes, built a beautiful new shop in Sterling and then changed modes to a private operation, only taking in very special cars or grandfathered in cars.

    regards

I think it's called DEW - something like DuPont Estate Works. They're on Mercure Circle. Chuck, Charlie and Kendall are still there. Kendall gave me a wonderful tour a while ago when I was having my 355 muffler customized at Piper Motorsport a few doors away.

PS - Very nice pictures, Ken, as always.

Ken, what's the story on the single seater? 60's era F1? Does the tranny shown just above go with it? Does it reside in the area? Any more pics?

I'm not sure if it is local. The tranny is from that car. I believe it is a 66 or 67 F2 dino. Gorgeous little car. Not something I would ever fit in! Those pictures were from when the shop was open to the public. They are a bit more private now and are not setup for giving tours and such.

I once watched Chuck Sr take a dent out of a priceless late 50's Ferrari race car. There were no measurements made, no diagrams to consult, just his hands, some specialized simple tools and a feel for the metal. The skill and craftsmanship that I was privileged to observe that day are indeed extraordinary.

I happened to catch a pic in the photo montage posted of my first Ferrari (308/Sera Blue/Tan) that Chuck and his team serviced and performed their magic. His dad loved my car.

Chuck used to sponsor parties and drives when he was based in Laurel. I'll have to wear my red Grand Touring collector shirt to a Holy Donut meeting soon.

I miss those drives. Attached is a collage I did of one that started in Potomac, went to White's Ferry then into Virginia for a lovely brunch at some restaurant.

    Those were the days!

Nice pics.. it's always great to visit with Chuck, Kendall, and Charlie. I think I'm past due!
It was really as convenient to visit when they were on this side of the river, but I'm sure the new digs suit there needs much better.

That little Dino (w the number 14) is one of the coolest comp cars I have ever seen, it came a very long way so that Chuck's extraordinary team could work on it

Thanks for sharing the pics. I remember when they were in Laurel but lost track of them after their move to Dulles despite passing through that area with relative frequency. They seem to be in an ideal position of being able to choose the clients they serve. That sounds like a pretty successful business if you ask me!

This thread should be renamed "Tool Porn"...amazing.

    Their upholstery shop is awesome.

All I can remember from the old Laurel days was taking rides in a 288 GTO, Miura S and a 427 Cobra...all in the same day.

Amazing era for DC exotics for sure.

For sure and more - Chuck is the East Coast's Patrick Ottis, the gold standard of rebuilding engines. Chuck has a magnificently restored Boano here at Pebble and on the tour, the car's engine and compartment is a work of art and it's interior has even a set of luggage installed in matching hides. 10 cars down the street is David Cart with his extraordinary 500 Superfast, the car is simply stunning. David does not limit himself to mere multimillion dollar Ferraris having done other top prize winning cars such as Talbot Lagos. As a matter of fact, I have never been to a Pebble Beach Concours where David did not have one or more cars on the lawn. We are so very fortunate to have such extraordinary craftsmen in this region, it's no wonder why so many world famous collectors send their cars here to have them worked on.
