If you haven't been to Tillman's Roadhouse in Bishop Arts yet, it is worth it. Meddlesome Moth. Great beer selection, but not typical food either. Call ahead reservation.
An update probably only useful to Rob... Sad to report that the Hard 8 in Brady was closed down last time I was through there...
I ate at the Silver Fox last week (jupiter and bush), it was very good. Chiloso (campbell and 75) is one of my favorites for tex mex. There both in your back yard Jim.
Heard that, I always went to one accross the street anyway, Mac's? Stephenville Hard 8 still my favorite in Texas. My favorite anywhere is actually in Salina, Kansas. Crazy I know.
Funny - My niece was in from Idaho last week for the stock show, and really wanted to make the trip to Hard 8. I know about it only from FChat, but my brother has been going there for years, every time he's in town. Took her to Angelo's for her BBQ fix, since we were pressed for time before her flight out the next morning. I guess I need to make that drive.
Insta-Lunch location!!! Too bad the parking SUCKS. I ate at the Silver Fox right after it opened when the guy that founded Del Frisco's still owned it. He came by the table to check on us while we here there. He of course has sold out and made $$$ (again). It was good in a city full of good steakhouses. Haven't tried Chiloso yet, but have seen it. I usually go to Fuzzys Tacos for quick Mexican food or Chuys when I want sit-down. Will try it.
funny you mentioned Insta-Lunch... not sure what days next week I will be in town, but at some point I will be. we are overdue for an Insta-Lunch
Just tried Private Social on McKinney Ave. last week and it was very good. The bone marrow appetizer is still on my mind. Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Neighborhood Services on Lovers...maybe it was listed earlier in this thread.
Remember when we use to do Ferrari events at the Mercury at Willowbend Mall or Uptown. We went to the original and I think only one left at Forest & Preston this weekend. Still frickn great food!
Brother and both nieces came in last weekend, so I go to sample the Hard 8 fare - excellent stuff. Now I understand the reviews. Funny thing - brother and wifey flew in, hit the Hard 8 near DFW airport. Nieces arrived the next day, they all hit the Hard 8 near the airport. Before they left, we all made the drive to the Hard 8 in Stephenville so my parents, sister, and I could try it where brother's family says is the best location. Yep, they all went 2 and 3 times to those two locations in just 5 days. I can see why they like it, but daaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnggggggg.
I remember the Mercury dinner at Willowbend! Don R had a yellow 328. Maranelloman was in town from Austin and some kid put an orange cone on his hood. It was my wifes first time to meet Uncle Greggy. He creeped her out a little. I have pictures somewhere.
Bump for needed updates. We tried Queenies Steakhouse in old downtown Denton last month. Chef Tim Love's Newest Restaurant: Queenie's Steakhouse It's the newest Tim Love restaurant and the sister place to The Lonesome Dove in the Stock Yards. It's equally good. Went back to The Lonesome Dove last weekend with people that had never been, one said it was the best meal she'd ever had. There's a new burger place near my house called Shadys, on Custer between Renner and Campbell. Actually very good burgers. I know all the owners, I was asked to invest early on and should've. Anybody else have something new to try?
The Slow Bone at Wycliff and Irving Blvd. Great BBQ by the owner of Maple and Motor burger joint that is good as well. On Diner's Drive In's and Dives. It was my new favorite until Sunday after Christmas. Only open for lunch. I stood in line with my son-in-law from Kansas City to bring home the famous Pecan Lodge BBQ. They are in shed # 2 of the Dallas Farmer's market now, but building a restaurant location near Deep Ellum. It is only open from 11-3 Wed-Sundays until they sell out. Got in line at 10:20 and were about 15 people back. Line opened at 11 and by 11:30 we were walking out with their Family Pack with all their types of meat. All our group of 10 that day said it was absolutely the best BBQ we had ever eaten. No sauce needed on any item. Brisket, home made sausages, beef and pork ribs, burn ends, pulled pork, the full monty ! Mac and Cheese has some Green Chile's in it that made it great as well. It ranked #2 in the D Magazine Best BBQ in the world article, and we all agree. Even converted the Kansas City kid. At the end of the Margaret Hunt Hill ( Calatraba) bridge the BBQ and Hot Dog restaurants are good, not great, but there are 5-6 new restaurants that have opened up there in that restaurant incubator area.
Forgot to mention that at Pecan Lodge, they now have a no wait line for those buying 5 lbs or more of meat. For a big crowd, that is the way to go.
My new favorite burger place is HopDoddy at preston/nw hwy in preston center. Best burger I've had, and they have 512 pecan porter on draft. Their truffle fries are amazing as well.
we recently tried a few of these restaurants in the Bishop Arts district and have been pleasantly surprised... really enjoyed Boulevardier, Bolsa and Driftwood.
Taverna Rossa in N.Plano off Preston Road near Spring Creek. Taverna Rossa | Craft Pizza & Beer Why: Stone-Roasted Artichoke Brisket Lasagna Mac&Cheese w. Chicken All their pizza's... Been there 4 times in less than a month... we keep trying new things on the menu! S
