Just tried this place and it was excellent! And much more reasonable than his old place - Aurora.

Now don't think anyone has mentioned Breadwinner's for brunch. Frankly their dinner menu is pretty darn good as well and you can always get a table there at night.

In your honor, I chased your old car for about 50 miles yesterday. At least I think it was your car! Sure sounded good when it dropped a few gears to go around a few cars!

    Time to update my list.

I'm dropping The Keg from my list of good burger places. Went last week, it was down to average. :(

Jim, go try Del's just east of 75 south of Beltline. Been there for 40 years. Try the Texas burger, and get the frosty mug of root beer. Really good.

WOW! Just had my first meal there! Yes, it's outstanding. Seriously so. Go if you haven't been.

The sad part is, I had a client from out of town suggest we eat there. I feel foolish. What a bad Texan I am.

Have any of you eaten at Cafe Brazil on the bottom floor of the Grand Marc Apartments on Berry st. a block east of TCU? JJ took us there last week. It is "not your ordinary coffee house". I had the Chicken Zapata. Grilled chicken breast topped with mango/chipotle sauce and fresh avocado slices. Comes with a really good green salad with very fresh spinach and a mixture of other greens. The spanish rice was fairly spicy and comes in a shape like it was put in a mold first. Price was only $8.99 and the quality and taste were excellent. Chased it down with a bottomless(unlimited free refills) coffee cup ($2.87) of their B52 coffee.

The menu is quite large with a quite diverse array of offerings. It is a 24 hour place and never seems to be overly crowded. You can sit and enjoy your meal or just coffee and dessert and are never rushed.........The Classic Breakfast is two eggs fixed to order, 3 slices of good bacon and pancakes, french toast or pancrepes. You can choose your style of pancakes or pancrepes, walnuts, chocolate chip, blueberry, fruit or what have you. And only $5.99. And yes it is better than the Denny's Grand Slam.

Very casual place. The servers are in jeans and t-shirts but their service during our visit was excellent. It was a very enjoyable visit......

For "exotic" burgers, has anyone tried Twisted Root on S.M.U. Blvd near Greenville ? I went there with a client a couple of weekends ago, her suggestion. The Buffalo Burger was excellent. They also have have Elk, etc. depending on the day you're there. They have several locations in Dallas, also at The Shops at Legacy, and Richardson.

    For Steak, Nick & Sam's.

For late night (2-4AM) I like Cafe Brazil in Oaklawn.

For amazing pub food, I love the Cock & Bull in Lakewood on Gaston, nothing like a pint of Guiness with your foie gras :)

Red Line Burgers on Valwood Pkwy and 35E. It's a tiny (no indoor seating), beat-up looking building with probably the best burger I've ever had. I always get the 2lb burger every time I go. I don't care if I can't finish it, that thing is good for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next day too!

    Bump.

I drove to Forth Worth and went here last night:

    http://woodshedsmokehouse.com/

It's a Tim Love restaurant, and I'm a huge fan of Lonesome Dove in the Stockyards. Try it too, it's my new favorite restaurant, period.

    http://www.lonesomedovebistro.com/

Woodshed was very good, and I'll go back, but I'm not sure I'll make a trip across town just to do it. We ordered the beef shin to feed 4 of us, for $85. I HIGHLY recommend this, but it's a LOT of food. I had 2 teenaged boys with me and we brought 40% of the meat home, and hardly touched the salad or the cheese. I won't order it again, not because it wasn't good, but because there's SO many other things I want to try.

Here's the shin after we pulled the meat off the bone, the tong gives a good reference. I should've brought that bone home for my dog. The other pic is pretty much how it looked when it arrived, but it's their picture not mine. I was in caveman-awe when it hit the table and didn't think to take a picture.

If you're close, GO! It's a very cool place, and would be great in the Spring when all the doors are open.

We really like Eddie V's on Preston Road where it becomes Oak Lawn Avenue in Oaklawn, Dallas. Sits right where Park Place Porsche / Mercedes used to be. And near the arts district and Downtown.
