I’m pretty good with car detailing stuff but never quite solved this issue: How do you blacken/restore the black plastic on side steps or floor mats without using products that become slippery?

Both my Range Rover and pickup have side steps, and the black plastic gets dirtier than the rest of the car. Even after washing they still look dull.

All the purpose-made products (Back to Black, etc.) clearly state not for use on steps or anything that can’t be slippery.

Any ideas? Another product I don’t know about? A clever DIY solution?

Try Mother's Back to Black. Does a great job and is a cleaner not shiny Armor All type goo.
It also works very well to remove water spots from any surface with no damage to paint or any coating.
It also works great in engine compartments.
