458 Buying a 2011 458 with 35,000km. Reliability? Maintenance?

    Hi,

Can anyone give me an idea of maintenance and repair parts and costs for 458 Italia 2011 with 35,000km (21,750miles)? I will likely put around additional 3,000km (1,865miles) every year. Luckily, the car I am considering will have the new power warranty which will cover transmission and engine.

I have never experienced a Ferrari before but I assume that any car that is 10 years old might not be free of oil leakage. Up to how much can an oil leakage on 458 cost? If there are any other repairs I should be aware of, what are they?

This 458 Italia is Ferrari approved and they claim that it has passed 190 requirements with no problem. I would like to know your opinion on this car's maintenance and reliability. I am a little worried mainly because of its year (2011) and well known high ferrari costs.

I would greatly appreciate your comments. Thanks.

As someone who has been asking the same types of questions, the answers seem to be generally "go for it, there's not much to worry about" - and these are indeed very reliable cars. Given it sounds like you're purchasing from a Ferrari dealership, even better. There should be no leaks. I would suggest asking for any/all documentation around maintenance. My biggest concern would be around the transmission (see my recent posts :() but if it's in tip-top shape then I am jealous and would tell you to BUY NOW.

    Documented services.
    PPI.
Minimum cost is annual service which IIRC is ~$1200-1500/year.
Tires every 10K miles or so.
Repairs? Who knows. But I’d budget ~$1500/year.
Insurance and all those other bits you already know.

I’m sure others here far more OCD than me can flesh these numbers out in greater detail.

BY 2010 and 2011 may give problems on the gearbox, is there not another 458 of 2012 or up for sale ?

I mean it really very much depends. Minimum is the annual service. If you blow a tranny out of warranty that's many many thousands of dollars.

Generally the cars are considered pretty reliable. But if something does go wrong it'll cost a lot.

Hard to get too much more detailed than that.

Annual service at the oem F dealer can be double of an annual service DIY or by your local garage or reliable F car dealer ….

It can vary from up to $1500 (oem dealer) or $700 (locally) …

And do you waste all that engine oil after one years driving of around 2000 Mls ? Realy ?

How much does a new trans cost? I heard some issues with the 2010-2011, does it have to do with the trans or is it a sensor issue?

For parts and labor? I would guess $10k+

Though I'm sure someone around here can give a more accurate answer.

Issues can happen to the transmission on any MY.

Usually it’s sensors that go bad and can be rebuilt with new sensors for around 10k. New power warranty covers that expense.

The tranny issues effect ALL 458 model years 2010-2015.

Thanks you very much for your comments. Just a little worried since the car is 10 years old already. Assumed that there should be minor issues at least.

Do you remember what the bill was of? Was it other than transmission and engine?

I put about 20K miles on a 2011 Italia, and now have 45K miles on my ‘13 458 Spider.
    No leakage issues.
On my ‘13 Spider I have had to repair one wheel speed sensor for ~$500.
That is it for repairs combined.

    Mine’s a 2011 458 with 36.000km.

No leakages ever, and apart from an expensive brake bill (rotors contaminated by being cleaned with an overly aggressive detergent, so no failure attributable to the car itself, but to a car detail moron), biggest maintenance bill I ever got was 1.700€ or thereabouts.

Buying from an official dealer and with a PPI/Ferrari warranty, you should be fine. Enjoy the car. The difference between having a seriously good time behind the wheel and being nervous at every turn of the key because something expensive may break, is huge. Trust me.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.
