I think my least favorite category of car is a restomod. You take something old and add modern whatever to it, which turns it in to something completely goofy looking.

And the car TheMayor posted is god awful.

Have to agree on both counts. Nothing worse than a 60s or 70s classic sitting on 30 or 40 section low profile rubber and 18" wheels.

I had to look up the term so thanks for schooling me. Indeed that is the look I'm not a fan of.

We have a "pro touring" purple and black (metallic flake) Pantera two villages over from me. One has to admire the restoration work but the aesthetic result is not to my taste... still looks a 1000% better than the thing at top of this thread

you are not a minority!. Actually it is not about who did this, it is who will pay money to buy that! the buyer should demand a return to the proper design. It is hard to beleive anyone who appreciate the classic lines of a Pantera would even speak with the owner of that arbotion

How about "Breadvan", Nembos or Thomassimas ? All started as beautiful specimens, but for whatever reasons were "butchered" to aestheticly something less.
Even "conversion" Daytonas Spyders, et al. are/were in a sense subjected to "butchery", no matter how close to accurate or who did them.

Then again, what do I know ? I thought this was a good solution for previously (early '50s) butchered pile of body parts and a chassis with missing running gear and other parts I bought 30 years ago. Heck, tens of thousands of miles later, I still think it is/was a GREAT idea !

Everyone seems to adjust Panteras, and although the frhomage du 430 on Ol Yeller posted above is questionable, I am a fan of the wing free sequential backside. Restomods are fine if the innards are improvements over the originals, odd rim/tire selections not withstanding.

Pardon my ignorance, but whats the difference between a restomod, and an older car fitted with modern engine, driveline, brakes, that still retains almost exactly the same lines as yesteryear?

Depends on who's interpreting... I'd say that there's no difference (based on your post).

However, some here think that a restomod is an older car fitted bastardized body-work.
