Resto Rods were selling for way less than the cost of building them. 75K Murci. BS 700k Veyron sale. In France a high mileage beater F 40 ns at 250K usd. More sellers than buyers.

Hey JG, what sort of shenanghans were going on behind
    the scenes there last night?

It was pointed out that the Veryon consigner bid up
to $100k for the VW bus which a friend texted, "It
better be full of good weed".

My guess is, B-J were promising the Veyron consigner
$1+m on the car if he'd pay crazy money for the VW
bus. Then, when the bidding ran out if steam at $700k,
the consigner went ballistic and then, all of a sudden,
    the bidder got "cold feet".

These are the risks taken when consigning a high dollar
item like this to a no-reserve auction such as B-J. Unfortunately,
people buy into the hype which, as the Italians say, is
    all smoke and no meat.

Someone must be digging deeper on this story, will post
    if I get anything.

A European colleague suggests that the "winning
bidder" was planted in the crowd by the Veyron
consigner with instructions of "helping out" the
    consigner run up the bids.

Interesting slant and perfectly plausible as well.

Video of the bidding on the Veyron on YouTube,
    not very good quality.

However, interesting to point out the bidding got to
over $500k in less than a minute but then chugged
    to get to $700k.

Also, notice the B-J bidder assistant who was working
with the bidder. He ran up to the podium in the middle
of the bidding and was given a thumbs up and he then
    ran back to the bidder.

    The conspiracy begins, haha!

I think a Prius will far outperform the Veyron in resale performance LOL

Nope. If you look at the video of that Veyron being pulled out of the lake closer up you will see it is silver and dark gray, the B-J one is silver and black.

I wonder when B-j gets their auction license pulled. Kruse got theirs yanked in May.

B-J have done enough back stage tricks and pulled
enough sheneghans over the past few years to put
    them seriously under the microscope.

One way or another, they get consigners to step up
and consistently put enough of these resto rods and
    "rare-rare-rare" Shelbys, Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros
and Mopars across the block to fill Lake Meade.

The question that always comes to mind is, if these cars
are so rare, how is B-J always able to get 40 (each) of
them consigned to each if their circuses?

They singlehandly blew up the collectible muscle car
market but the problem is, they've left a lot of guys
holding huge notes on cars (and) they may never recoup
their money on, especially after the market collapsed.

The little I saw of Vegas, the line up was medocre at
best, even Craig Jackson admitted that in his post-Veyron
debacle interview. So, when they do roll out collectible
exotics, challenging RM and Gooding, they come off
    looking cheesy.

Kruse lost their license due to not paying consigners
their take on cars which sold. They were starting to use
funds made at one auction to pay off sellers from previous
auctions; sounds like things spiralled out of control.

Not sure if what happened with Veyron #80 constitutes
having their license pulled but whatever was really going
    on was seriously questionable.

While possible (And I first thought so too), I don't believe so... wasn't that Veyron in a minor fender bender? BJ claimed this is a no-stories car...

I've never heard anything either Isaac... I think one of his rims had to be replaced for $10k, I can't remember the exact story, but it was not from an accident. That may be what you're thinking of.

Well that settles it. I didn't want to say it was Tim's car since I wasn't sure, I just knew it wasn't the Texas car.

What was the deal with the $750k bid? That amount was shown on the screen for some time with the auctioneer asking for $775?

If the bandanna guy bids $700k, and someone else bids $750k, doesn't that let the $700k bidder off the hook?

I don't know why that's funny... it was listed as "celebrity / ceo-owned"; the Indy exec had many friends in Hollywood, sold a house to Britney Spears, etc.

I'd say it is not a good sign for the Bug when, regardless of the venue, a slightly used example can't find a real bidder at even 50% of its original MSRP.

I didn't watch any of the BJ coverage on Speed so I am glad I stumbled on this thread.

Almost 12K miles - a fair bit in the buy-and-park era of value retention?

The deal with the miles on this car is that it ran coast to coast, and was driven often. Definately not an investment piece of art, but rather a play toy.
Here is #80 in the 2007 Great American Run. (sorry so many pics, not sure which one I liked best)
