Just bought two tickets for all three days at Turn 9. You can now PICK YOUR SEATS! I got seats 1 and 2 in Row 2 plus 3 day parking for $960. Sat at Turn 11 last year and it was wonderful - can't wait to see from the other side of track.
T9 is one of the 3 best GSs imho. The others are T1 & T12, in no particular order. They're all great. The ability to pick seats has been up for a few weeks now. Take a look and you can see the highest availability coincides with the areas where COTA is now offering single-day admission. (T3,4,5,11, & GA)
I know, I know, old bump. But I wanted to ask you all who have gone to cota, do you sugest doing all three days or just the race day? Considering buying some tickets for this years race. Looks like turn 12 is best but bleachers instead of seats. Not a big deal for me but I would be bringing the gf, so if there are more comfortable seating with exciting views, let me know. Thanks all
Definitely all three days, IMO.. Qualifying and the support races are part of the weekend! As well as hitting a few clubs with me!
^^ I agree. I think I've had more fun on Friday and Saturday than on race day itself. More sessions to watch the cars, less traffic, shorter lines and smaller crowds make it much easier to move around the track. And that is one of the better things about COTA, you can really get a number of different cool views from various spots on the track. On race day, you pretty much have to stay put if you are in GA because you would lose your spot... and moving around takes a long time due to crowded bridges and other areas... but on the other two days, you can wander around, and there is always a good spot available. For the past two races, plenty of Friday and Saturday tickets have been available second-hand at a discount right up to the day of the event. So if it were me, I would get the seat I really want for Sunday to lock it in then just pick up whatever is available on Fri or Sat if you want to go. It might be a grandstand ticket for cheap, or bleachers, or GA... but it's all available pretty easily.
Thank you BigT. If we go, I'll be sure to get in touch with you. As far clubbing, those days are far behind me! Living in miami for 13+ years, I've completely burned out on the club/party lifestyle. Likely milked it far too long! Great times, lots of adventures and stories but with two kids/gf and being in my mid 30's, I needed to retire from that lifestyle.
I like T15 and T19 for GA, both for the views and because they are close to most of the "stuff" like the grand plaza and tower. T1 is a must-see, it's a great iconic view of the track. But I like it better for the support races; obviously with F1, the start (and any restarts) are awesome from there, but during the race the drivers understand that turn and you probably won't see the rare overtake there. The other series, especially the ones with amateur drivers, are a completely different story. They get easily tempted to take all sorts of lines because of the width of the turn (often with bad results), and thus much more action there. I've sat in T11 East Grandstand, at the hairpin, and it was good but kind of far from everything. I haven't tried T12, but it looks great.
Yep. Hellmund designed it with that wide entry and narrow exit with exactly that in mind...specifically to entice drivers to take the dive up the inside.
Having been to this race a couple of times, I'm personally thinking of cutting back to just Friday and Saturday this year. More bang for the buck, and it's very difficult to follow the race well at COTA with their crappy tv system.
Well, Austin has a variety of clubs...we do have the techno scene like Miami but to a greater degree I hang out at the Broken Spoke, Continental Club, or the Saxon Pub, maybe the Horseshoe Lounge. Low key dancing and pool shooting establishments!
They really do need at last one more Jumbotron for the Turn 1 hill...the one facing Main Grandstand is not visible from T1. Or maybe two on that pole, with angled mounting each way. Has anyone listened to the FM broadcast? That was "on" then "off" as they worked out the deal with the original telemetry vendor.
