I have been looking to upgrade to about a 5 mega pixel digital camera. I have been looking at the Nikon Coolpix 5700, any other suggestions for good quality, reliable cameras? I want to pay below $500. Thanks

Im not sure about the megapixels, but for a good p&s, the Konica Minolta X50 is supposed to be really good

I use the CoolPix 5700. Excellent quality, bit complex (for me) to use. Easy connection to my Mac so works well for travel.

That looks nice, I wish I could find a comparison of most of the 5MP cameras on the market, that would make things A LOT easier.

    Tritone--any problems so far?

If you want a P&S digital. You should consider the lens quality, how quickly the camera starts up to take the first shot, and susequent shots and finally how many shots the battery will last before a recharge is in order.

Oh Yes, a very bright flash helps for night shots.

I have a Kodak DX 7590. It is 5.0 mega pixels with a 10x optical zoom and a 38-380mm lens which is the equivalent to a 35mm film camera. It comes with a docking station that makes it very easy to transfer the pictures to the computer. You just set the camera on the dock and press one button. You can also take Quick Time VGA movies (640 x 480, 12fps) Also the camera has 32 MB
internal memory and it takes SD/MMC memory cards.
It is an excelent camera and I have been very pleased with it. It will do until I get a digital SLR.

Here is what it looks like.
