Automezzi DRIVES to Winter Park Resort - 6/29 and 7/13

Hi All -

Since Automezzi is going to be on August 17th this year (Anderson Park in Wheat Ridge) ON GRASS.... I figured that we needed some early season Italian Car Club activities....

Under the banner of Automezzi Colorado, we will be having two informal DRIVES up to Winter Park Resort. Both on Sunday so our dealership buddies can go along too.

Sunday, June 29 (Yes, we know this is FCA picnic, but perhaps there are a few not attending that event). We will be meeting up with the Alfa Romeo and Maserati Club guys coming back from their rally weekend in Steamboat.

Sunday, July 13 This second date was added specifically to accomodate the Ferrari club, so hopefully we get alot of interest.

Both drives will begin from Golden (Starbucks at 1301 Washington Ave off of Hwy 93)....proceed up Golden Gate Canyon Road through the GGC Park to Blackhawk/Central City. Down Central City Parkway to I-70 for a brief 10 miles before hooking up with Rt 40 through Berthoud Pass to Winter Park Resort.

Winter Park Resort will be providing us a private parking/display area to park the cars -- and folks can go off an enjoy the resort village for lunch. Plans are to spend a couple of hours up at WPR and then folks are on their own for the return.

WPR will be making discounted lodging available for the weekend if folks want to go up early and meet us (as the Alfa/Maser clubs are doing on 6/29).

Here is a ROUTE UPDATE for 6/29....(we will do the same for 7/13).

Automezzi Italian Car Club will have TWO multi-Italian Car Club DRIVES TO WINTER PARK RESORT

(All car makes welcome to join us).

Sunday, JUNE 29TH, and SUNDAY JULY 13th .

These will be an informal, no cost get togethers for a cruise to Winter Park Resort. Winter Park Resort will provide the Automezzi Club a sectioned off area in the Winter Park Resort Village.

We will gather at 8AM at Starbucks on Washington Avenue in Golden (Washington Ave/Hwy 93 intersection). DRIVE WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY at 8:30.

THE ROUTE:

A) Head North from Starbucks on Hwy93 toward Boulder.

B) At 0.4 miles TURN LEFT on Golden Gate Canyon Rd.

C) Continue on Golden Gate Canyon for approximately 18 miles to Hwy 119. Details below:

at 4.4 miles, KEEP LEFT at fork.

at 8.3 miles, KEEP STRAIGHT

at 13.2 - 14.0 miles Golden Gate State Park entrance (PHOTO OPPTY at lake on right).

D) at 18.2 miles LEFT ON HWY 119 toward Central City/BlackHawk

E) at 23.3 miles, entering Blackhawk (across from GOLD MINE CASINO). STOP AT POST OFFICE lot / COFFEE SHOP ON LEFT

We will stop here for 15-20 mins or so and gather the troops.

F) Head left toward Blackhawk. 0.1 miles to Right at TRAFFIC LIGHT. TURN RIGHT onto Black Hawk Street heading up to Central City.

G) At 25.5 (1.1 miles up from Blackhawk), turn LEFT at CENTURY CASINO/SPRING STREET. (Follow signs for Central City Parkway toward I-70)

H) At 33.9 (9.5 miles from Blackhawk), TURN RIGHT onto I-70 WEST for 10.4 miles to HWY40

I) At 44.3 (19.9 miles from Blackhawk), EXIT #232 Empire/Granby to Winter Park.

Continue through EMPIRE (VALERO GAS STATION 1.2 miles on right) for 25 miles to Winter Park Resort.

J) At 69.2 miles (24.9 miles from the I-70 turnoff #232), LEFT TURN onto WINTER PARK DRIVE.

K) At 69.4 miles (just 0.4 from previous turn), LEFT ONTO CABRIOLET WAY.

L) WE WILL PARK / DISPLAY CARS IN THE CABRIOLET WAY LOT under the cabriolet lift. We should meet up with the Alfa Romeo and Maserati Club folks (approx 10 cars) around 11....

We will have some WPR folks to watch the cars so that we can enjoy the shops/restaurants in Winter Park Resort. Cars will be expected to be in the Winter Park Resort "show" parking for a few hours only for the WP Visitors to enjoy. Lunch is on your own. After approx 2 hours, drivers are free to leave for whatever destination.

COVERED PARKING IS AVAILABLE close-by incase any really ugly weather should blow in.


M) LUNCH is on your own, but we will have space for all on the patio at Back Bowl Soup Co. just at the entrance to the Resort.

N) If anyone would like to stay over at Winter Park, we have access to discounted reservations at area hotels. Just let me know.
