Sorry for the lack of posts ive just been very busy on this project and others. The engine came to life this week for the first time and it sounds awesome with the fuchs exhaust and test pipes. Still more tuning to go then on a dyno for some numbers and a solid tune thats safe.

I made plug wires because a set doesnt exist that'll fit the coil packs where I have them mounted, not to mention you can buy a new smart car for the cost of 512TR/M plug wires. Plug wires need wire holders, air boxes contacted the inner deck brace in a huge way. I relocated the air boxes down and back so now I only need to put a relief in the brace for it to clear.

I need to check timing again and calibrate the ecus to the trigger and play with the fuel maps.

This conversion was a challenge, no other way to put it. Back and forth between two ecus with file changes was time consuming as well but the sound! I love it!

    very nice job ! ! ! :) :) :)

so a real unique one you built there.

next to do after the engine will go fine is to modify the brakes to handle this power.

what please is an IAT sensor?

Intake Air Temp sensor. Originally in the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) on a TR or M. Newer cars have an IAT1 and IAT2, one measuring incoming air through the air cleaner and one in the intake manifold. The additional sensor is critical in a forced induction application.

    Paul,

    Another Awesome project.

It would not be fair to drag race for slips, without changing the rear emblem :D.

Great going Paul. Love how neatly you routed the plug wires, lots of attention to detail... even in the details!

What's the plan to lower the airboxes? To cut the perch and reattach lower, with new pipes bent?

This is going to be one very fun car!

I lowered the mount bar from the TR that the bar and boxes came from and moved it as close as possible to the rear cross bar thats welded in place on the testarossa. I extended the brackets I made to mount the TR bar and extended the air intake couplers that hold the IAT sensors which are now painted black after welding latch tabs onto them and adding an o-ring. The TR boxes have over center latches that pull the boxes tight against the MAFs which I replaced with straight pipes.

I repainted the silver boxes silver again to freshen them up. Throttle cable modified to hook up to the central pivot, crank case ventilation finished and coolant tank hooked up vs the original location. Ill post a before and after pic in another post.

All right, forgive me for being indiscreet, but I just have to ask.....:)

What does a "new in crate" complete 512M engine go for in $$$ --- care to share what it cost ???

Road tested today for the first time, took it easy though. No shortage of power and it sounds great. Need to finish off a few details....and make the rear lid fit! I took a video of it idling after a full warm up and most of the oil burn-off was gone - still a little can be seen from the tips but I dont now how to load it here. I put oil in the cylinders before starting it for the first time and the muffler is new so I expected a plume for a while.

    Before and after pics.

Man, that M crate motor looks great in there. I noticed the starter orientation is a little different in the before/after shots. I assume the bell housing is from the existing car, so did you have to do mods or am I seeing it wrong?

Also, as curious I am about the cost of the motor, I'm glad you were discreet on behalf of your customer. If it was me, I wouldn't want it broadcast for public consumption. Perhaps the owner will share that info if he is so inclined.

You asked what a new in the crate engine costs. I forget the exact amount so when I needed to find one I went on line to get a price. I wont tell you what the job cost but thats not what you asked.
