I have a 92 512 tr euro car and I would like to switch from KPH to MPH. I am finding it a pia to drive and not know the speed I'm traveling. Is it a direct swap or do I need some electronic magic to make it work?

yes, but only for the speed,
just remove the km/h scale and put on a mph scale

you only ask about the speed you are going, not the distance.

when you have a complete instrument with mph original then you just can change with the km/h instrument and have also the right distance

Does anyone know if the speed signal to the gauge is positive pulse or negative pulse

My original speedometer in KM stopped working. I wanted to change to MPH anyway, so I bought a need MPH speedometer and installed. It still did not work, so I bought and installed a new speed sensor . Speedometer still does not work! Where do I go from here??

Is there any fuse involved? Is there a way to check the speed sensor for function?

No individual fuse, Dennis (all your other gauges would stop working).

There is an online tutorial for checking these sensors. It looks like a "Veglia type II"

    http://www.dinoplex.org/instruments/vegliaspeedosensor/

The signal is +/- 0.7 volts

You may have bought a faulty part or the wiring is faulty. Wiring diagram here:

    Link expires in 7 days.

It looks like the speedo supplies the sensor with 5 volts dc on the red/green wire. Steve will correct me if I'm wrong :D

If I put a meter on the correct wire at the sensor and grounded it I should get a reading 5 volts dc correct?

That's what the original wiring diagrams have written on them. I guess the speedometer must transform battery (12) volts to 5 volts and then supply it to the electronics inside the speed sensor. The ignition must be turned on for this.

I will give that a try, should confirm if I have a bad connector

I guess if 5 volts is not present, you could work your way back to the speedometer. Perhaps someone can help you with the location of connector 410119 (probably around the left hand rear shock absorber). This connector caused problems on F348s until they redesigned/waterproofed them on later models.

Also check for 5 volts at 41042 (perhaps located in the very forward section of the centre console, under the dash).
