GT2-GTE car is a bit quicker all things being equal, but the GT3 car is easier to drive and cheaper to buy/operate. The GT3 car has traction control and motorsport ABS.

If you're interested, I know ESM has a 2013 Spec GTE car available for sale (for really cheap, relative to a new one from Italy). They also have a GrandAm spec car that's based on the GT3. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions about either cars. Send me a PM and I'll give you contact info if you're interested.

    Good luck and have fun!

ps: we'll be out in the grandam spec 458 at Watkins Glen, Indy and Laguna for the Rolex races. stop by and check it out if you're in the area.. just ask for me.

no more 458 Challenge for you this year Mike?

your thoughts and advice last year were timely and valuable.

I'll let you know what i think after Montreal perhaps.

I would love to do back-to-back compare of a 458C-GT2-GA-GT3,same day, same tires...

will try and stop by at the track, I may be running in one of those

    good luck!

No more 458 Challenge for me. I had originally signed up and had a car available to do the LM24 support race but I canceled at the last minute. Really trying to focus my efforts (and budget, which is running out!) on the ALMS and Rolex programs. Need to improve for next year.. would like to secure myself a ride for 2014 in the combined GrandAm/ALMS series but can't do that without more improvement and better results. :)

Strange that they're blaming the crash on a "softwear" error.

We use Motec and recommend it highly.

I don't quite get the prognosis. Are they blaming it on the ABS or not?

The GT3 is not based on the Challenge car! Suspension, aero, electronics are very, very different. There is also a HUGE gap between the 2012 and 2013 versions. Today, depending on the track the GT3 is about 1 to 1.5 secs slower than the 2013 GT2. This is largely due to the BoP that the GT2 has been given where at Le Mans even the wing height was reduced.

The GT3 has a racing ABS which is fantastic (especially 2013 version) and now (2013) has a TC similar to the GT2.

As to the ease and "softness" of the 3, I agree with one significant exception: the 3 under steers more. Both cars are sensitive to what tyres are used too.

The GT3 engine block is based on the production version (the GT2 is a pure racing engine) and the GT2 chassis is closer to that of a prototype and therefore more "technical" to drive on the limit, especially as the BoP has so dramatically reduced power.

The cost per km is doubled between a GT2 and GT3....

Stubborn italians do not listen to others.
Maybe Audi should take them over :)

As a owner of a brandnew built 458 GT3, MY 2013, I agree on your words.

Here you will find pictures with all details of the building of my chassis-no F142 GT3 *3444*

    Hanspeter Strehler Motorsport

During the building period (3 weeks, only 2 Mechanics) I was almost the entire time in Padova with Michelotto. I was also interested in a GT2 but next to the initial price difference, the maintenance is a lot more expensive..... :)
