I am looking into a 458 race car and always thought the GT2 car was much faster than the GT3, given its superior aerodynamics. However, I have discovered that the GT3 car is lighter and has more power. Which car is "faster" and what are the differences I have not mentioned. Thanks

Was more interested in knowing than buying. I tried to buy a challenge car a few years back but my dealer is full of a bunch of useless jerks. Have not bought a f-ca since 07 because of that. I walk into a porsche dealer and they treat me like a king :)

What about one of the Porsche race cars then?

Not sure of pricing but there are a range of options from Cup to full blown RSR.

"regular" 458C is an incredible package by itself.

There are 3 distinct other types -

458 GT Grand-Am - complies to GA rules incl restricted motor, sequential box, Hoosier tires, steel brakes, no abs, no active suspension components, but has aero package and larger tires (but they are Hoosiers)

458 GT2 meets specs for LeMans (ACO) specs - for GTE class in ALMS, ELMS, et al. Much less power, sequential box, etc.

458 GT3 looks to be the meanest of them all, runs in FIA GT, Blancpain, et al.

I believe all have been designed and engineered by Michelotto.

All require serious technical support and engineering work to run, maintain and optimize these cars for use - from track days to full on championship races. These are very serious race cars.

What are your plans? If just having/driving, pick what want, 458C is cheapest at $300K new the rest go up from there. Get a good shop who knows these cars, have the tools, and what what needs to get done (as very little is actually written). Extremespeed and Risi are probably best places to call for help, or the shop that supports my 458C, HPTech.

Generally GT2/C are faster but with BOP GT3's on some tracks are just as fast. Both are a LOT faster than Challange cars.

We have a 430 GT2 which is a great track day car.

458 GT2 is faster (quicker laptimes)
Remove the restrictor and it will be much faster :)

    yep.

458 GT2 in ALMS does 1:19's at Road Atlanta, 458 GA does 1:22s. I think a 458 GT3 would be between the two but probably closer to the GA spec car.

No matter which one is faster, the GT2 or GT3, you better have some serious intentions and skills to go along with those intentions to driver either one anywhere near their limits.

Just a random question. Might be really stupid. What would you say is faster. P1 or 458 GT2?

Both cars are way more than I could handle on the track. A man gotta know his limitations.

On the Ring we did a 6:51 with our GT2/Hybrid. I bet a P1 would be close but we ran that pace lap after lap for 24 hours which a P1 couldn't do.

As an aside a regular driver would be faster around a track in a P1 than a GT2.

The hardest thing for a regular driver to learn is how fast you can go through turns in a high downforce car.

I'm no where near Pro Drivers but after a lot of learning/testing in a high down force car got a lot faster then I'd ever gone before.

The difference between the 458 GT2 and 458 GT3 is enormous. The GT3 is based on the challenge which is at least based on the Street car. Sure there are some modifications but at least, it is not a "real" racecar like the GT2 is. GT2 is build up from scratch.

wheigt is more or less the same (1245 KG GT2, 1250 GT3) and "less" power is just the result of the very small air restrictors. If you use the car just as a track car, you can run it "open" without air restrictors and you will have around 700 HP. I am a personal Sponsor of a Driver who races in the ELMS with a GT2 and in the GT Open with the GT3. He days the difference is huge, the GT2 gives you much more feedback, the GT3 is "softer". For Gentlemen Drivers, the GT3 is easier to drive. Both are great cars! I own a F430 GT3 Scuderia and also tested the 458 GT2 and GT3, as a real amateur driver, I was not able to reach the limit so I personally can't realy compare but I felt the difference too.

not to forget to mention that purchasing price and maintenance is also a huge difference. For the GT2, you need a experienced staff to run it and I doubt a Ferrari Dealer can provide you with that level of knowledge. For the GT3 you can run it with a Challenge experienced staff.
