Can any of you take a picture of the headliner in your 400i for me. I'd like to know if a car with dual a/c and the overhead console had the "tufted" or "ribbed" headliner or if it was smoother. Sure appreciate it.
Dave I don't think whether the car has dual a/c or not makes any difference in the headliner. I've seen smooth leather, nubby fabric and tufted or ribbed leather. That covered section running along the middle of the headliner is just for the roof lights, front and rear. All of the dual a/c stuff is below, with a small set of switches between the front seats, accessible from the rear (or front) and the vents come out by the rear windows. John
Thanks for the reply John. I was under the impression that the overhead console was only installed on cars with the dual a/c option. I'm not positive that is accurate. I made the assumption that a car with the overhead console might have a different headliner than the standard "ribbed" or "tufted" headliner.
That is exactly what my 84 400iA looks like. It also as dual air so it doesn't resolve your question. Al
Actually it does! This car is a 1984 dual a/c car. I've never seen one before and therefore didn't know if the above pictured headliner was correct. Since the same set up is in your 1984 dual a/c car I'm going to assume it is correct. Thanks for the reply.
My 84 400i (#049773) also has exactly the same headiner - my car has both the dual AC and leather headliner options and it looks just like this. A
Mine also looks exactly the same as this (other than color). '84 with NO rear AC. Brennan Johnson San Luis Obispo, CA '84 400i #47583
