My 1980 fuel injected manual transmission 400i died while I was driving down the road at all of 25 mph. Coughed once and quit.

All diagnoses point to the igniton module. Fuel injection system is working o.k. I have good compession, distributor rotor turns o.k. Coil checks out o.k., etc.

    But no spark.

Looked like a Crane MSD ignition could substitute for the Magneti Marelli module (P/N AEC 104 BK) o.k., but no luck when I hooked it up.

Any suggestions on substitutions, or other diagnosis tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks much.

Do a search on "400i MSD ignition" Lots of info already on FerrariChat.com

Good luck. You didn't say which MSD ignition box you tried.

MSD is what a lot of people do.
I'm a fan of Permatune however. They'll "rebuild" your dinoplexe so you still have the factory look.
I had one on my car and it worked great.

Mine has the MSD 6A. I haven't had the car for long but it seems to work well.

Would hot wiring the car be an alternative?
